X61 battery compatibility

#1 Post by dragonknight » Sat Sep 17, 2011 11:51 am

Hello everyone.

Recently I've purchase an used X61, which machine type is 7675-4KU.

As the 4cells battery is getting worse and worse, now I have just 1 hour on it (without wifi or bluetooth), I decided to purchase a new 8Cells battery for the X61. I'm living in Ukraine, that makes purchasing and shipping a battery from Battdepot is ridiculously expensive for me so I'm planning to get a friend purchase a battery in Vietnam and bring it here for me. You can find the battery from the link http://thegioipin.com/p394/c230/Pin-Lap ... 1-OEM.html. Since I can not bring the X61 to the shop and test if it's compatible or not, I've read all detail about the battery compatibility in HMM and Lenovo support site. But none of them seens to give any help.

That's why I need a professional to confirm me that the battery I'm planning to purchase is compatible with my X61. Please help me with that.

In short, the question is:
Is the battery from the http://thegioipin.com/p394/c230/Pin-Lap ... 1-OEM.html compatible with my X61 7675-4KU?
Thanks for all your help and sorry for my bad English.

There is a chance that the battery will cause the "not a genuine Lenovo battery" warning message. This is based upon my experience with "compatible" X6 batteries. You may also find that the battery will not allow the laptop to be connected to the X6 Ultrabase. Some of the non-genuine Lenovo batteries are made slightly thicker or with a different shape that prevents the laptop from being inserted into the base.

Thanks rkawakami for your quick reply. From you reply I can assume that this battery will actually WORK with my X61 and It will fit into the battery socket, is that correct?

For all the problems you mentioned, I don't have a X6 Ultrabase (In fact, I have another T60p at work and have no need to use my X61 with the ultrabase), so it's not a problem. For the warming, I use *nix for all my work, and I have no Windows and Think Vantage Power Manager installed on my systems, so I won't be bother at least.

It appears that it will fit in the battery socket and latch properly but without having it in my hands, I can't say for sure. I have used non-genuine Lenovo batteries in my X60 systems and so far all of them have worked well, with one exception. That 8-cell battery was fine for several months (received used with a system) and then one day it got extremely hot and refused to charge any more.

If you are to believe that website, then that battery is a Lenovo original, not a cheap generic model. It's clearly listed as O.E.M.

However there are countless websites in Asia that sell cheap generic parts claiming them to be authenic, then when enough angry people complain, the website vanishes. I'm sure you're in a much better position to know which ones can be trusted. When I buy things online, I use web sites that allow users to post reviews of products, like Amazon.com or Newegg. If I get something that is junk, or something good, I write a review and I always read other users reviews before buying. Websites without buyer feedback from a different country is something I try to avoid, so good luck, and I hope you find a good battery.

ps. I'm looking for a x60 tablet battery, if anyone knows where I can get a genuine one cheap, or a reliable clone, let me know. *since this isn't my topic, please PM me if you are replying to my postscript.
