X61T pen input not working

I have an X61T with SXGA+ screen. It came with a bad hinge so I swapped it out for another used one. Now the screen works just fine but for some reason I can't get pen input to work in W7 or Linux. I messed with drivers a bit and it does say "pen enabled" in Windows but it just won't work so I have to conclude it's a hardware issue because it worked on Ubuntu before out of the box but won't any longer.

Any ideas what could be the hardware issue on this?

While swapping out the hinge, you may have messed up the connection from the digitizer and/or the LCD cable.
Open up the lid and remove the LCD to check those.
PITA, but can't think of anything else.

That was my first guess too. Any ideas which part it may be?

Ok, I took it apart completely and could not find one thing that prevented it from working properly. All connections seemed tight, nothing broken or worn.

Is there any way to disable the pen input by a special key combo or a button? Also, is it possible that the pen died? It's not broken or anything but maybe electronics inside is dead?
