What is the best 3G WWAN card for X61s?
What is the best 3G WWAN card for X61s?
X61s with Middlenon BIOS. What 3G WWAN card the best? Gobi 2000?
T60p 14", T60p 15"
Re: What is the best 3G WWAN card for X61s?
As your X61s is running the Middlenon BIOS, in theory you should be able to install any legacy and current WWAN cards available (with Pin20 covered?). As I do not have an X61s, but assume similar experiences with cards I have installed within several T60's - The following unlocked WWAN cards worked with no prob's with T60's that supported the internal WWAN mini PCIe slot - (with modified BIOS, covering over Pin20, sim card slot & relevant antenna's)
Sierra Wireless MC8775 (Generic, HP & Lenovo branded), MC8780 (GPS Enabled) & MC8790 - Option GTM378 (GPS Enabled) - Ericsson F3507g (Lenovo branded) - These cards worked well with all UK mobile networks
My personal favourite's are the Huawei EM770 & EM770W - Very fast DL/UL with excellent sensitivity in poor signal reception areas - both support PCM voice over USB (with correct firmware), enabling voice calls through the thinkpads internal mic & speakers or via bluetooth headset. They also support simultaneous Data & Voice providing your Sim & mobile network support it - Recommend them!
Currently I do not have any Gobi 1000/2000/3000 or Ericsson F5521gw WWAN cards to test, but may get access to them possibly early next year etc.
Before buying any WWAN mini PCIe cards, do make sure the technology & frequency matches your country's network(s).

Sorry to bring this old thread back, but I need a link for the updated firmware for the Huawei EM770 UK version and I also need to know how to enable voice. My EM770 came unlocked if that may help. Thx in advance.

It worked, I just updated the firmware and installed mobile partner and I was able to make calls. Once again thx.

Great news! -
- Looks like your EM770 was already voice enabled (?) - Been using this card (Voice enabled) in my T60p (see signature) for 2+ years on 3UK - Works fast and smooth.
