Ultrabay HDD: Default save location possible when it's occasionally removed?

#1 Post by Eliz427 » Thu Apr 16, 2015 8:00 pm

Hi folks,

I've got an HDD in the UltraBay, as my default My Docs, photos, pictures, etc. save location (Win7). This works great except for the few occasions when I switch in the DVD drive to install some software - then Win Explorer crashes. I'm guessing this is just the nature of the beast, and I need to change the default save location for My Docs each time I want to make the switch to be able to access WinEx.

But thought I would ask in case there's another solution out there???

Thanks for any ideas.

I can think of a couple things to try. Not sure on how likely success would be...

Change the drive letter of the optical drive (when it's inserted) to something else via disk management (start -> run -> diskmgmt.msc).

and/or

Instead of relocating the documents/pictures folders, just "add" a location to the respective libraries. That way, when the disk drive is missing, it still can access the library and hopefully not hang up.

Thanks! I will try the first. If not, guess it's time to start using Libraries......

Appreciate your suggestions!
