HDMI and old laptop

#1 Post by chriscrain1978 » Wed Oct 19, 2016 6:38 pm

Hey guys. I have an old laptop and a graphic card with a VGA output. I need to transfer the video signal about 25 ft to hook up an hdmi video panel.

If I get a converter, does it matter if it sits closer to my PC or to the video panel? If it’s closer to my PC, the hdmi cable would run longer. If it’s closer to my video panel, then I’d have a longer VGA cable.

Also, any recommendations on which converter I should use? Thanks a lot!

heaps of $20-$30 usb to hdmi converters on ebay... obviously usb3 is preferable

quick google shows 25 ft seems to be the practical max length of hdmi without boosters

I have a budget around $200 and want to invest in a quality device, but there are so many brands/models to select from. Any suggestions?

you dont say what your intended use is...

if you're wanting to stream Powerpoints then it doesnt matter but I would assume that they are at their limit streaming say FHD video... games is a no go

since your budget is so high I would buy a few of these devices... simply because i cant trust a china no name gadget for $20... so in that case buy two for $40 and see what works better
