Lenovo sl500 working without lid?

#1 Post by Fin2 » Sun Dec 11, 2016 1:35 pm

Hi!
Dropped my Thinkpad on the floor and broke the left hinge. Affects somehow the screen backlight but I've managed to use it until someone flipped the lid and now the screen is black. The connection in the wires must be damaged?
I'm not a computer nerd but after watching many You Tube-videos I had an idea on removing the whole lid and screen and using the Thinkpad with an external screen. Can this be done? And are there issues to consider before grabbing a screw driver? I read about screen on/off switch magnet and did not understand...
Hard drive and the keyboard work perfectly and I really could use my Thinkpad in the future without moving it.
All help is more than welcome☺️

Should be no problem removing the whole lid and then hooking the "leftover" base up to an external monitor.
The lid-switch is inside the lid, so won't bother you once the lid has been removed.
You may want to change the BIOS that the default screen is now the external one.
