Display Lid Warped / Bent? Here Comes the Ultimate 5 Minute Fix!
Display Lid Warped / Bent? Here Comes the Ultimate 5 Minute Fix!
Hey guys,
I was suffering from a bent / warped display lid. I seeked relief on the internet, but all I could find were suggestions to RMA the device, or just "let go".
I wouldn't want to "let go" - and this bent display was annoying me so much, that I started experimenting a bit until I have come up with a solution that just works.
TL;DR:
Put the display lid in the oven, around 2-3 minutes at 180 degrees celsius. After I took it out, it had already straightened itself in the oven. Please note, that if you do so, you do it at your own risk and maybe try it with 1 minute (or less first) ... these things are very fragile! A second too long might ruin the lid.
Before, it looked like this:

So, it was time for the oven:

After just 2-3 minutes, the result was quite impressive:

Uh, these images are way too big. Could you put them as a URL, instead?
The forum's rules did mention something about this:

It would also be greatly appreciated if you can keep the pixel dimensions to something around 800x600.

This has got to be the silliest life hack I ever heard (and I don't need it right now, thankfully) -- but I'm reasonably amused and glad to see it worked!
Good for you!
I'm one of the cell phone users with limited data plan - I recently started making enough money to increase from 3GB to 5GB* per months, but I still prefer that images do not auto-load in this forum. Interesting indeed. Good information here. Although if it's really "a second too long might ruin the lid", I'd be wary of using this on my own devices, at least the important ones...
