Any way to like posts on forum thread?

#1 Post by Tetsuo1981 » Thu Nov 07, 2019 3:39 am

Hi all

New here but finding it a great forum so far. Just wondered if there was a way to like posts from members on forum threads as a way to show thanks and appreciation?

Cheers

Be glad we don't have such a space- and time-wasting system.

Fair enough, just wondered as it's a feature on a few other forums I visit.

Perfect. Don't need or want "like" feature. Been on a few cigars and whisky forums with this and it's nothing more than an popularity contest. Leave the attention seekers to social media and facebook.

On the other hand I found this feature quite useful (on sites like stackoverflow for example). When you're seeking a solution to some problem and you stumble across a post which could help you BUT also maybe make things worse (eg. flashing bios, etc.) and you see a post from someone who has a good rating from users votes, it's probable that that person knows what he/she is talking about and that the solution proposed by him/her could maybe help you without making the things worse. Now you can rely only on an overall "all posts count" counter for that person which can be misleading. I stumbled across few people who had high ratings and been still down voted because they were proposing bad solutions (for specifics cases). With this post I am not saying that you should implement this voting feature for post, just sharing my opinion. :) Peace.

Edit: People can still quote posts and disprove proposed solutions, but people has to scroll!

I agree 1000%. I am a member of another forum that has the "like" feature and it constantly detracts from the purpose of the forum and adds nothing of any value. This forum is an oasis of sanity in an insane world.
