power up password

Hi ! Trying to remove forgotten :oops: power up password on my old 240x. I have tried shorting JP1 as instructed in the worshop manual but it just comes back :? . Anyone got any other ideas.

For some additional edification on this subject....

- power-on passwords can usually be cleared by following the instructions in the Hardware Maintenance Manual. (See HMM index here)
- there's no forum restrictions on talking about power-on passwords since the factory has already made public the steps required to do so
- BIOS (supervisor) and hard drive passwords are another matter; public discussions about the possibilities to bypass, remove and/or circumvent them are not allowed here

Since the OP has stated that placing a jumper across JP1 did not work (and assuming that the OP used an electrically conductive piece of material), then it must be assumed that the system has a supervisor password and thus falls under the forum's rules on that subject.
