Guys! I'm crying!!!
My HDD was broken and I didn't do backup image of it before. When I tried to install 10.8.2 on my new shiny HDD, I didn't succeed. Actually I get almost working system, but boot only with -f. What I'm missing? Does somebody have consolidated and updated "how to" I can use to re-build my machine?
The system info:
Intel® Core™ i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz, HD 3000, 8GB RAM, 320GB HDD. Currently running Mint 14 :-(

Hi,
can you give more information about what you already do to your system, and what error code you get ?

BTW, does any one have issue draging windows using track pad ?

Hi, as I said before, my laptop is running Linux now. Previously I tried to follow the manual in this post, but point I got to was possibility to boot with -f switch. Unfortunately I don't remember what errors I got. I'd like to go through some updated manual to try again to install the system from scratch hopefully successfully, otherwise maybe I'll be able to provide some details about errors.

Yoohoo!!! Back to Mac OS!
Following the manual on the first page of this post installed 10.8.2 and now will make backup image of my HDD to external drive.
I got stucked in boot after all Post-Install actions. Once booted with -v switch I saw that I got “Still waiting for root device”...
The step fixing this was to do patch as described here:http://blog.yerkanian.com/2012/09/20/up ... tain-lion/
:-) will continue with upgrade to 10.8.3 after backup of HDD to image. :-)

Hi all, First of all thanks to that GREAT Post!!

I am the owner of an X220 with this specs:

2nd Gen Core i5Intel i5-2540M / 2.6 GHz ( 3.3 GHz ) ( Dual-Core )
8 GB RAM
500 GB - Serial ATA-300 - 7200 rpm
1366 x 768 ( HD ) Display
Intel HD Graphics 3000 Dynamic Video Memory Technology
BIOS: 1.26 not whitelisted
standard wifi that comes with the Laptop.

I am following the steps to install ML but the USB dongle never Boot up. It starts, shows the chameleon and then flashes the apple logo boot. After that it reboots and starts again.

It happens the same with or without Extra folder in the USB dongle.

what can be happening ?

Then it reboots

G'day folks,

I'm a happy user of osx mountain lion 10.8.0 on my x220 thanks to fraidos' post on the first page. With the exception of wifi (on my ar9280) everything is running swell. My girlfriend has SL on her MacBookPro, and having like-devices in the household is wonderful. 8)

I have experienced the following wifi-related problem:

My Dell w1515 half mini-pcie (ar9280) works fine ONLY if my home network is open (no encryption). Once I set it to use WEP,WPA1/2,WPA2, connections time out, and though I can see my networks ssid, I'm unable to connect. My router runs Tomato firmware, and other -G and -N devices in the house work fantastic. I've tried using updated IO80211Family kexts from 10.8.4; patching the kext plist manually for AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x200), but still no luck.

Some questions:

1. Has anyone experienced this anomaly with ML, and in particular, with this (otherwise well-supported card) chipset? Has anyone found a fix for it?

I'm considering upgrading to the latest 10.8.4 to remedy this problem (supposedly there have been wifi fixes across a wide range of chipsets - so many users on the internet have reported Mountain Lion's flaw in regards to wireless), which brings me to my next 2 questions:

2. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to 10.8.4? I do want to run the latest and greatest, and if my wifi gets fixed, I'll make the switch regardless of other bugs introduced (I bought this laptop with mobility in mind, after all), or

3. Should I stick with 10.8.0, and perhaps use superkhungs package instead? Would this affect wifi in any way/shape/or form?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. Yes I have tried the -x at boot, apart from the -v.
I also tried to change the Graphicsenabler and some cpu.... with no luck...

When I create the usb, should I put there the Extra folder ? ( I am doing this now).

and the dsdt file, needs to be there also ?

Thanks

Manuel

Hi all,

So I am still doing a lot of tests as I can not believe I cannot boot my USB in the X220.

I have checked the USB and it is working ( started in a vmware box) so definitely it is something in my machine.
I have changed the BIOS to 1.28 and also to 1.28 whitlisted with same efect....

What I am going to do know is three things:

1) Do a list of all the Hardware (exact sandy bridge, exact vga to see if there is something I am missing)
2) Try to install from the HD instead the USB ( to try something)
3) Try to install LION or SL

I have also tried chimera and uniboot

If someone can help me is much much appreciated.

THANKS

MANU

****rollback 10.8.1 AppleACPIPlatform.kext seems to have better power management and laptop runs cooler, fan stays more quiet

Hi all,

after some desperation my X220 system board died a couple of days back.
Today the IBM guy changed my System board and now I am installing ML... no changes to the USB I did some months back so I guess something in my mother board was wrong....

I'll keep you posted.

THANKS

Hi all,

Just a big thank U for the help to set this up.

I have working ML 10.8.2.
I have the the sleep issue, not coming back and fast led and fan... any idea ?
I haven't done my own dsdt, can this be the issue ?

I've tried to update to combo 10.8.3 and combo 10.8.4 with no success.
After installation of the combo I reboot the machine and never get back to OSX, neither with -x option on boot.

And if I enable "use Kernel Cache" in Chameleon the OSX never boots ( apple logo screen with spinning wheel and a forbidden sign..)

Any clue ?

Thanks again

Manu

Hi all,

Just Installed combo Update 10.8.5, after reboot and enter with -x i got a Kernel Pannic.

replaced then AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext with the one in 10.8.4 ( that came from 10.8.1).
Start with -x and with Kext utility install:

AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext
AppleACPIPlatform.kext
AppleHDA.kext
AppleSmartBatteryManager.kext

after this 10.8.5 boots with out issues.

I am going to test to see if I've lost something.

Update on 10.8.5...

following the verbose boot I can see two things:

1st) Some times the Ultranav /trackpad is not being recognized, so no built in mouse when booted.

2nd)

two smc errors show on boot:

SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR $Num kSMCKeyNotFound(0x84) fKeyHashTable=0x0
SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR: MMIO regMap == NULL - fall back to old SMC mode

I have checked and I don't get them in 10.8.4

hi, for the smc errors i'm getting those too , i think it's ok it doesn't affect anything ,
if you want them to stop you can roll back to 10.8.4 AppleSMC.kext but i stay on 10.8.5 version and all works perfect.

For touchpad/trackpoint i use the driver RehabMan/OS-X-Voodoo-PS2-Controller 1.8.7
with changed VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext-->info.plist
FingerZ=47

and works ok

i noticed that when the touchpad is not responding some times (like its turned off) you can press Command + PrtSc and the touchpad works again ;)

Hi all dear X220'ers,

I followed these great & complete instructions to install OSX a while ago and most of it worked fine except I didn't have the Dell network card yet. Well, now I have it. I used the 8duj15us.exe from http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R ... st-Removal and put it in the slot.

I still get the following error message on boot:
1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card (168C/002A/105B/E013) .

Maybe this is because I downgraded from a BIOS version higher than the modified one? It seemed to carry out its installation fine and to plan, but somehow the whitelist is not upgraded maybe?

Can anyone help me? OSX it pretty boring without a WiFi ;)

Cheers!
Remko

My current (WL modded?) UEFI BIOS version is: 8DET58WW (1.28) / Date: 2012-02-14

OH DAMMIT. While swapping around WiFi cards one of the antenna connectors of that stupid Dell card (or a chinese copy of that) broke off !!! You'll have time enough to reply while I contact the ebay seller who sold me that piece of ....

Has no one tried an Expresscard wireless card? There are several that people plug into Macbooks with success. I've got an Expresscard SSD coming in the mail, but I now realize it would be way more useful to have wifi without dongles.
Linksys' is one of them:
http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Linksys-WEC ... scard+wifi Nvm, this is not 54mm.

manuforce : now i use the latest rehabman voodoops2 1.8.8

re404 : this is what i have and is the latest version 1.39 with whitelist and pm patch (you dont need to patch AppleIntelCpuPowermanagement Kext anymore)

i suggest to remove the wifi card from your laptop then update the bios with this original lenovo bios : http://www.sendspace.com/file/zylphr

then after the reboot download this : http://www.sendspace.com/file/mmrz0f

unzip it somewhere and run FLASH.BAT

when its over shutdown the x220 and install your new wifi card (i have the dell from first post)

now you have it

Hi sot_33. Thanks for that. I will try that once I have a new wireless card. (Still haven't done that.)

Now ANOTHER question:

Since I don't have much harddrive space I'd like to run OS X in a virtual machine from windows from the existing physical partition.

vmware workstation allows this very easily but now I get this (see image below) : "Can't find" (just that)

Image

I've tried several -rd:diskXsY combinations but it doesn't help.

So ... Can any of you help me any further?

Thanks so much again.
