Anyway, like I said, removing my DSDT.aml from /Extra fixed it. I'm not sure why but it did, so at least I have an out if something happens again.
That's because there is no GFX0 section in my DSDT. This section is required to start appropriate hardware management. I recommend you to use google in order to find some references.

FYI, there was no iGPU section into the DSDT at the beginning. I had to add it in order to define the correct iGPU output and to get the HDMI audio working. You should do the same for GFX0.

Last point, you are welcomed to post any here any x230T issues.

Finally I recommend you:
-to use the usb port at the left & closest to the LCD.
-to disable the virtualization technology for all the installation process.

i think i'm having issues with sleeping on my hackintosh, and there are a few things that have caused me some concern

upon booting with -v, there's a line that says something around the lines of 'x86platformplugin failed to set ring table' which i feel may have something to do with my sleeping problems

when i generated my SSDT, i manually specified the Intel Core i5-3320M to base it off of because that is what i have inside my x230, does it cause problems when the SMBios says that i have an i7 processor instead? i would just like to be given some pointers or some clarity on what's going on here, it'd be much appreciated :) Thank you!

I became fed up with the issues and took a break, i apologize for the lack of responses. I'll be giving it another shot and giving my 2 cents fairly soon.

I think I've hit the final wall. Though I've got just about everything functioning fine, wireless remains an issue. My built in wireless card is nonfunctional and, as I understand it, the X230's mobo has a whitelist which prevents changing the wireless card. As a result, I have to use a USB wireless adapter. These wireless adapters do not integrate into AirPort, and their network manager is really limited-- it does not allow me to use my campus's network, which is protected by WPA2-Enterprise and requires a username and password. Unless a whitelist removal method is found OR a way of using my USB wireless adapter (Edimax EW-7811un, same chipset as Realtek RTL8188cus) with AirPort is found, I'm [censored] outta luck.

Been fun regardless. I got OS X booting and that's the main thing I wanted to do, just to prove I could.

Thank you fraisdos for the guide! Similar to peroxide's x220/Lion guide, but that one didn't work for me at all. After only a few nights of hacking away at it, I seem to have a stable, dual-booting system with everything but bluetooth (and nubmouse, incredibly strangely. Have not tried to fix it yet since I use a Magic Trackpad). The thing that held me up most was that there was a typo in my extracted DSDT (build 2540). Whoever wrote it declared a variable improperly "Name (_xxx, 0x00)" instead of 'Name (xxx, 0x00)'. And so it didn't compile and I was just reading thousands of lines trying to find the difference between mine and Fraisdos' (which did compile in maciASL).

Gilros if you're getting IOAPCI 80x20 or whatever, your DSDT.aml is bad and should be ignored on boot with DSDT=no. I think if you've added a permanent flag in Chameleon for DSDT and it's bad, you will not be able to boot even into safe mode and will need to start over.

Fraisdos, can you tell me what repairing permissions does and why it is important? I know rebuilding kernel cache is important for fast booting.

That's a issue I have to work on.
A temporary solution: use the headset from a cellular.
A better solution: use the inline mic in your Apple ipod headphones. It works perfectly with Skype (as it should since it works with the Windows x230).

I've got some battery life numbers, and they're quite impressive. 5 hours 1 minute with the 6-cell! Compare to an even six for Windows with all possible power management (CPU/PCI/USB) under the same general use audio/video/brightness conditions.

here it is if you want to download it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/715 ... i.kext.zip

Just try another smbios, macbookpro for example, u will see that the issue comes from somewhere else. Probably comes from the SSDT file.

It did indeed, thanks you! I'd call it a 40% increase in brightness. The backlight brightness was definitely a problem, that I was just going to ignore and tally to battery life. Would you mind showing me what you've changed in the kext?

in a hex editor, there's an occurence of 100700100700 not long after the ig platform id, which sets the max backlight level to 710, the key is to change it to 121300001213000 so the max brightness of the panel is 1312

and then magic happens

Anybody else not getting any Turbo states? Here's my SSDT generator output, it seems to be okay. I get two P-states, Idle (1200 MHz) and Base (2600 Mhz). The computer runs at least as snappy as a MBP and all the hardware works in 10.8.4.

One more clean install, and more judicious application of kexts, and I have all P-states. If you are using myHack to install, be advised that your Extra folder will be duplicated in S/L/E under myHack.kext folder. This will result in an extra NullCPUPowerManagement, which was the (likely) source of my issue.

A long shot, but if anyone else has the Sierra MC8355 card and is trying to get it installs (or has already succeeded in doing so), please say so.

Thank you for the great guide fraisdos125. I only have 1 problem. My AppleHDA.kext isnt working. Im on a W530 but it looks like its the same chipset ALC269. Do you created the kext yourself or did you find it anywhere? My DSDT is patched and everything is installed but i cant get it working.

I have maybe a fix for your USB 3.0 problem (if i understand it right) and will post it later today.

I made a reinstall yesterday and OSX used the AppleUSBXHCI.kext for my USB3.0 ports without any problems (nothing patched etc.). Sleep is also working. I will upload my DSDT in the next days, i patched some other stuff like UHCI and EHCI etc. maybe this is the problem.

ALC269VC
Attached my Codecdump for AppleHDA maybe you know more about that then me :P.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/fvbqzjhynd09q75/CodecDump.zip

Is your Displayport working with HD4000? When i use your DSDT edit for HD4000 DP is working but the internal screen is in strange colors and resized. And when i use

Code: Select all

                            "AAPL,ig-platform-id",
                            Buffer (0x04)
                            {
                                0x04, 0x00, 0x66, 0x01
                            },
Internal disply is working but no DP.
I alredy tried to Hexedit the AppleIntelFramebufferCapri stuff but after that it isnt booting anymore. I will try more stuff later today and report.

i got it working through the same method of the mountain lion installation, only problem is that it forced me to make a new account, and it ended up moving my applications to a "recovered files" folder on the root directory, which seemed to have messed up a few of my programs, but i reinstalled the ones that were causing issues and everything seems to be working quite smoothly!

Hi Fraisdos.
Coming up on a year into a stable OSX x230, 10.8, 10.9, and soon to be 10.10. Your guide improved my life, without question. My favorite computer now and ever.

Were you ever able to make the DW1515 card work by making it pass whitelist check? I understand the BIOS modders were not able to produce a modified BIOS for you. Eagerly anticipating your response, though not holding my breath.

Hi Agar,

The fact is that, a special hardware (and skills) is required to do the mod.
In other words. I do not expect to success on that point :-(. A wifi dongle maybe a solution.

An other point, I have added an update few days ago on my initial post. The mic is now working.

Can either you or fraisdos comment on these instructions? I am undecided on whether a BIOS edit is worth the risk. I understand recovery of a bricked BIOS is usually possible, but..

My expresscard Linksys works fine but has poor range.

Proceed at your own risk, they have UEFI BIOS.
I won't touch T430/T530/W530/X230 or higher.
They have lousy keyboard layout, bad documentation, and are not real Thinkpads any more...
Not to mention almost untouchable touchpads, that are getting worse with each new model! Yuk.

Hello guys,

let me thank you fraisdos125 for this great resource you and the other folks have managed to put up.

I used to be a Mac user as Desktop for about 8 years now, but due to some life changes I decided to sell my macbook pro in favor of a ThinkPad X230 and archlinux which is my main system at the moment.

ArchLinux or any Open Source system is good enough for me, I mean at the end of the day I only need a browser, a terminal, a decent DE and some good ACPIs that provides a good battery life, and so far archlinux has been delivering this amazingly.

However there comes a point sometimes where I do miss OSX for real, which is when I occasionally need to use either Office or photoshop. Now for office I have put up a VM with a basic Windows XP, however for PSD I need the real thing.

I know I gave you way too much info, my bad, essentially my question is: by following your guide will I get all the hardware working on the x230 with ML? If not, please let me know what currently does not work. Also what's the battery life with ML?

Thanks

Hi Unknowuser ;-)

First, I would recommend you to forget this guide and install YOSEMITE with clover efi boot loader. This makes your life much more easier.
By doing this with appropriate mods, the following will work:
- USB 3 without kext mod.
- Sleep and Wake
- Graphic with full functionalities
- CPU power management
- Ethernet / Bluetooth.
- Trackpad.
- Cam, mic, speakers, hdmi output (video & sound).

will not work:
- Wifi. You can forget the whitelist mod. The mod is hardware protected. That means you have to unweld, flash and weld back the eproom. I would recommend a usb wireless stick.

- Wifi. You can forget the whitelist mod. The mod is hardware protected. That means you have to unweld, flash and weld back the eproom. I would recommend a usb wireless stick.
Hi fraisdos125 thanks for taking the time to get back to me and I do apologize for the extremely late reply, however I have just realized you had left a reply, my bad.

However, I have followed your suggestion and I went ahead installing Yosemite with clover UEFI only, and unfortunately I can't really advance beyond getting the ethernet, mouse and keyboard to work.

I have't had much like finding the kexts compatible with Yosemite needed for this laptop to work, and I don't really know much of DSDT editing, nor I know the tweaks needed for clover to properly work with this laptop.

Would you mind sharing us your knowledge about getting Yosemite up and running on this bad boy?

Or at least give me some hints about where to find drivers and such, I am certainly willing to take the time and doing my homework, though right now I am a a bit lost.

Thanks and keep the good work up :thumbs-UP:

iMessage is back up and running for me after making the jump from 10.9/Chameleon to 10.10.4/Clover. Was thinking of buying a real MBP rather than have to go through this process with a totally different boot loader, but setting up on Clover was actually much easier than my first time with Chameleon, no KP's at all.
