What is the best choice for OS X on thinkpad ?

#1 Post by jbmpark » Fri Jan 08, 2016 2:38 am

I want to buy a ThinkPad within 1200$ budget to run OS X on that.
Then, what is the best choice for me?

E560 is a good one?

And can I activate 'AMD Radeon R7 M370 2GB' on Yosemite?

Please let me get suggestions.

$120 or $1200?

Best bet is an older proven machine, without a wifi whitlist (or de whitelistable like the xy20 machines)

I've had good luck with an X220 (http://x220.mcdonnelltech.com), and a t420s (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/ ... try1952283) with almost 100% of the important features working (sd card, usb 3 notable exceptions on el capitan).

Do a search for the model you want on the insanelymac or tonymacx86 sites - lots of good information. If the model works, it will likely have a build proesss to follow. If not, you're on your own.

Note: hackintosh desktops are pretty stable. Laptops are notoriously not. ymmv. I'm pretty happy with my t420s, but little things like fan speed is hard to control, and battery life isn't the best, and displayport doesn't work (nvidia)

Lots of compromises, but livable. If it's for more than playing around, get a macbook.

Thank you, Dan.
( Surely budget is 1200$... I've corrected it. )

After pushing my old and faithful T60p to its limits,
I bough a used T420 for a very decent price.

The model: 4180A32
with intel HD3000 graphics
a SSD for MACOS 10.9
and mSata SSD for WIN7
8 GB of RAM
and a replacement WiFi card for Airport.

Following this guide:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/ ... uefi-only/
I have a very stable and fast system.
T420 4180A32, MACOS 10.9, WIN7
