Actually, there are two versions of the Atheros cards, so I was wondering if anyone who has a working Atheros card if they could say which version works.
Atheros Model II (US model apparently)
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... lCurrId=73
Atheros Model I
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... &storeId=1
Edit - After doing more researching on Thinkpad Wiki, both cards have a device ID of : 168c:1014
Can anyone with a working Aeros card check their device ID to see if it matches?

OK i did not know they were illegal files.
And if you read my previous posts on this subject it will become very evident, if i would have known that this was an illegal operation i would not have pursued it.
That being said, is there a way to do this legally, i am not adverse to actually purchasing this software.

Unfortunately the only "legal" way to obtain the disc is to buy an intel mac. Once OS 10.5 comes out, a boxed x86 version should be legally obtainable on the shelves. Of course it will still have to be ripped, illegally patched (circumventing protection, against US DMCA), and burned probably to a DVD9.
Some people are buying the boxed PPC version to morally make themselves feel better.

The biggest thing that Apple would like is for you to actually shell out money for OS X and the install discs; I don't mind that either. Of course, once you have them...It is somewhat up to you as to how you would install them. Giving Kyocera a "Hard time" indeed...ZildjianKX wrote:Sorry, was just giving you a hard timeKyocera wrote:OK i did not know they were illegal files.![]()

The least of Apple's worries is a few PCs without the TPM module running OS X, it would be even better if every one of those PCs could be matched up with a purchased copy of OS X as well.

Actually what Apple wants is you to shell out money for the hardware, they are primarily a hardware company afterall and that is what they make their money off of. Their great OS sells their hardware.christopher_wolf wrote:The biggest thing that Apple would like is for you to actually shell out money for OS X and the install discs; I don't mind that either. So here my OS X story on Thinkpad 2373-N1U.
PM 1.8
1.5GB Ram
80gb 5k
15" 1400x1050
Atheros A/B/G
BT
I previously had installed 10.4.1. Bugs and quirks galor using my laptop and no wireless which was big. I've recently installed 10.4.5 and it's amazing. Almost everything is working smoothly with slight problems. Wireless support is excellent right from fresh install. You need to modify the resolution in the com.apple.Boot.plist in order to achieve 1400x1050x24. Notice I said 24bit since 32bit aggrevates an ATI issue with the current 10.4.5. You get shearing on windows, looks really wierd and you hit F11 twice or any expose key to restore it for that windows's session. Not a huge deal a little annoying. If you go to 1280x1024x32 you don't get any shearing whatsoever but that's not my preference. Now there a small glitch that occurs with the mouse evry now and then not really annoying but it's there . I've read the shearing is due to Macs not supporting 1400x1050 hence there's no real driver support for it. Now as for Quart and Core Image they both work great. VLC for x86 works perfect. Bluetooth works but haven't synced anything. Sound works perfect.
Gripes:
The trackpoint button won't scroll, I hate the touchpad and don't use it so don't ask me about or clicking (which I believe is supported). I can't easily scroll through a page without a mouse attached. Power management is not really helpful and it doesn't ever sleep(working on it) and never shut downs the display. You can add a kext to have the battery bar and that's where I'm at.
Boot time....27 secs to the desktop...wow
I have it dualbooting with XP SP2 and i have another partition setup as Share in FAT32. I can even use the Cisco VPN client and Office 2004. Bragging rights to the rest of my IT Support team, priceless.
It's been a pleasure learning OSX and I might switch it as my primary OS soon enough.

Everything you described is exactly the same for me. Only exception is I had to use the "hack" to enable hardware acceleration, and it freaks out with the sheered windows at any 1400x1050 resolution, 24 bit, 16 bit, etc.
I also installed the newest Atheros card to get my wifi to work and had to modify a network configuration file, other than that things work great.
Edit - Woah, it now works in 1400x1050x24, no clue why it was screwing up before... sweet!
Now if only sleep mode worked.
Well when I goto System Profiler it doens't show ATI Radeon butZildjianKX wrote:

Yes, I'm running 10.4.5. Your hardware acceleration is definately working, if not you wouldn't be getting QE or CI.javellan wrote:Well when I goto System Profiler it doens't show ATI Radeon butZildjianKX wrote:

Now if only sleep mode worked.I tried for about 5 seconds to get my ATIRadeon9700.kext to load my dev and ven id but I couldn't get it to work. Do I have to take them from xp and then plug into the kext, rebuild the kextextensions? How do I know if Hardware Acceleration is really supported? One realy buggy part is my wireless hasn't been keeping my configuration well, the preferred list remembers correctly but it almost always tries to find any network to join and it drives me crazy at times. Anytime I want wireless i have to fiddle with it to work right. Any thoughts? Are you on 10.4.5?[/code]Code: Select all

If you look in the x86 project forums, there is a hex patch someone made to patch the 9700kext, I used that to get my X300 working. Not sure about your wireless, mine has been working fine. Do you have an atheros card?
Same situation here..
Here's my situation/setup:
IBM Thinkpad T42
1.6
ATI Mobility Graphics
1400x1050x32 Native Resolution
Intel Wireless 2200BG
All installed like a champ.
Only two issues:
- No wireless support
- When moving windows around @ 1400x1050 resolution, the image gets horribly distorted(as mentioned by others)
I tried various combinations of the following resolution fix but no luck:
http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=889
Anyone gotten the 1400x1050 resolution to work flawlessly?

Wouldn't that disable CI and QE? if not, that wold be fantastic until my x60s comes in haha.I fixed the funky display issue for 1400x1050x32 resolution on my T42 (ATI Radeon Mobility 9600) by doing the following:
1) boot with -x
2) In terminal enter cd /System/Library/Extensions
3) sudo -s
4) rm -r ATI*
Now reboot

I have WinXP Pro & OSX 10.4.5 dual booting in my T41 2373-A06. Everything seems to run fine except for a few minor things. Power management doesn't seem to work. Safari crashes once in a while plus a few other things but the OS does not lock up. Connectivity is excellent, BT and Atheros MiniPCI WLAn both works good.
javellan,
How do you add the power bar?

It actually did disable CI and QE.. Any way to eliminate the messsed up screen and keep ci & qe? I frankly prefer having functional native resolution than not have CI & QE. --Obviously I'd love to have bothjavellan wrote:Wouldn't that disable CI and QE? if not, that wold be fantastic until my x60s comes in haha.I fixed the funky display issue for 1400x1050x32 resolution on my T42 (ATI Radeon Mobility 9600) by doing the following:

Also, Is there a maxxuss patched version of 4.5? --just curious.
"About this MAC" shows 10.4.4 so I guess I don't have 4.5.
Are there any differences that I would notice w/ my T42 in 10.4.5 that are'nt in 10.4.4? Kind regards!
Its tricky to keep the service partition. I managed to keep it by using partition magic to create a 50 meg FAT partition, on which I installed boot magic. Then resized my freshly reinstalled winxp partition (my first attempt managed to botch my winxp partition as it stopped booting) freeing up space for the macos partition. I created a basic partition there in PM and booted off the install dvd.
For some reason though, Boot Magic kept hiding its partition, so in order to configure Boot Magic I had to wipe out its partition, recreate it, and reinstall Boot Magic. Rescue disks may be another alternative, but no floppy for me. Be careful here and don't wipe out the boot partition and then reboot.
To deinstall Boot Magic, set the default boot partition to the one you want to make active, disable boot magic, and then save.
In the configuration you can add the Mac OS partition, as well as the Service partition. Access IBM button will not boot the service partition using this solution, however. But you can boot into it using Boot Magic. Small price to pay I guess.
There may be ways of booting MacOS from the Windows boot loader, and really this would probably be the ideal solution since I suspect it will keep the Access IBM service partition boot functionality.

Id like to make a suggestion that I was not aware of initially (for those w/ the restore partition)
You can enter the IBM Access utility in windows and actually create restore disk.
After creating the tangable disks, you'll have a back up should you screw up the load partition.
I kept it however by using partition magic and resizing the c: drive down... created a new 7 gig fat partition and selected it from the utilities menu when installing osx. (obviosuly chose erase and format in osx)
So, does 1400x1050x32 work flawlessly in 10.4.5?

yes, 1400x1050x32 works flawlessly on my T60p. Had to edit the info.plist in ATIRadeonX1000.kext
Atheros worked from the get go. I just need power management and audio to work. I like it.

I remember reading someone did some benchmarks on a MBP running windows and scored higher than the Thinkpad T60. Well, I did the opposite. Did you guys know that I got better XBench scores than the MBP version?

ok, you guys need to figure out what your device ID is for your graphics card. for the FireGL V5200 it's something like 71C4, just run the apple system profiler to get this info.
next, you'll have to edit the appropriate info.plist. For the T60p, it's inside the ATIRadeonX1000.kext. go to the osx86project.org forums and do a search for my userid. There will be a thread which I learned all of this info from.
good luck. I don't have my T60p with me right now, so I'm just going on memory. If you still can't figure it out then give me until Sunday to post exactly what I did. BUT, everything that I learned was from osx86project.org
ah, here's the thread..

download the koverg patch. you don't have to use the patch. it's just that he included a read me for the actual editing commands.
So, you only have to do 2 things.
A. edit the appropriate info.plist file to change your device id, so that the system will recognize the graphics card. The X1600 that is included with the MBP is something like 71C5, just change it to the FireGL V5200's which is 71C4.
B. add an entry in the com.apple.boot.plist file so that you will have 1400x1050x32 enabled.
