Ok, I have it running on my T60p now too. (200786u).
Tried to get audio to work...no luck yet.
VERY fast.

what do you think about it?
I think I'll stick with winxp as the primiary os and maybe use osx just to play around with. Even if everything worked on osx, it seems that I get more done with winxp.

Well, I like OS X a lot. Although the software I use is available on both platforms, the experience is not always the same: XP has a little more speed and OS X has a little more class and stability. Lets be honest, OSX is a more modern operating system in many ways compared to XP...but its an XP world out there. Thats why the possibility of having both is pretty cool.
What's working on my t60p: Screen, keyboard, trackpad, thinklight, dvd burner, USB, wireless, Ethernet (untested), video card (very cool), screen brightness control, dual booting
Whats not working: Sound in any form, sleep function, battery monitoring, power management, sound buttons
Sound is a must and probably not too far off from working. A sleep function is important to me, so I'm hoping that comes soon as well.
Overall, it could probably work well as a primary OS for non-production level tasks. When more software is released for OS X x86 and the remaining issues are solved...then I could see myself sticking with OSX full time on the thinkpad.
The big issue for me right now is the quality of the screen...very poor pixel response which is a big deal in what I do. I'm thinking this thing is going back to Lenovo at the moment....but we'll see.

The response of the screen depends on the hardware of the LCD; it is variant between different LCDs. IPS is faster, etc. Haven't heard of any problems with tearing or other pixel response times on XP. Does it exhibit the same pixels response times in XP?

Hi,
I've installed OS X 10.4.5 on my T42 (2379R9U), sound/ethernet/graphics all worked ok, had to tweak settings to get 1400x1050 and I do experience gfx tearing sometimes (quick F9 toggle clears any weirdness).
Intel wireless and my bluetooth hasnt been detected. I know the Intel Wireless aint supported but I thought Bluetooth should have worked (any tips?). I have a Netgear PCMCIA wireless card which was detected and worked after plugging in.
Sleep function doesnt work but this is not a big deal since rebooting is less than 30 seconds.
My major issue seems to be with power - if I boot up running off battery the graphics work about 3-5 times slower, if I boot with mains power connect all is fine - even if I disconnect the power thereafter until I reboot.
This is the only show stopper for me - any ideas on fixing this would be most appreciated, does anyone else even experience this? (tried searching on OSX86Project but the search engine is rubbish!)

Yes, the pixel response is poor in XP as well.

10.4.6 is out. Once it gets "patched" to run on PCs w/o EFI I hope and PRAY that apple included a driver for the intel wireless cards.

I think we should all have a heart to heart. in all honesty, I think most thinkpad owners will keep to the OS they used prior to playing w/ OSX. --Reason being, a thinkpad is not a "beauty machine". It's a bottom line performer. Black on black, sleek, stylish with out the *bling*. Truth be known, I'm more tempted to use the Novell distro of linux:

That Novell system is pretty impressive. Suddenly makes OS X seem tame. Especially the spinning 3-D cube desktop. But would I get nauseous?
Too bad Adobe doesn't make CS2 for Linux. Then I could consider shifting more seriously.

There exist even fancier items out there for both OS X and Linux; 3D File Browsers, XGL Window Managers, etc.
It is cute and all, but I care more about how much work actually gets done. That is why I have FluxBox on my Linux Install as well as IceWM and XFCE.
Or, for the ultimate utility, you could just go with a command line interface and maybe, if you really want to get fancy, X11R6 Default or OpenMotif WMs.

Yeah, I figured the cuteness factor would probably wear off after a while. And it's probably a resource hog (?). Although the 3D desktop seems genuinely useful. There are a lot of cool things out there in the Linux world. Sigh.
I do still do email on a command line. The benefits of a gui for that have never been obvious to me. (And I really like having a remote account that I log into.)

Tadaa. And these really aren't even resource hogs. My near-dead, aging laptop can do most of this stuff and not bother the "real apps". It's all off-loaded to the video card.
And although I agree that the cute/coolness factor can wear off soon, a subtle touch here and there on the desktop makes the whole experience a teeny bit more pleasant. How much more usable it is or productive one will get is another issue.

And oh, unlike OS X (which I'm beginning to reconsider, Egads!), the cuteness can be turned down or off when you can't take bouncy-glossy icons all over the place anymore.

I've got a t42 and im trying to install 10.4.5 thru vmware but i get a PAE error.

The reason why many Linux fans are also OS X fans is the hardware detection and the sheer number of COMMONLY used closed source programs that are available on OS X but not Linux.
Eye candy can be had anywhere when a nerd has time.

FWIW, I managed to install 10.4.6 (HOTiSO) on my X60s, using VMware 5.5.3 build 34685.
Here they advise to add PAE = "TRUE" to the .vmx configuration file, but I didn't do anything special and it works (I think PAE defaults to true in newer VMware versions).
