Install problem

I installed OS 10.4.1 with no problem on a 20gig 4200 rpm drive in my t42, it runs smooth no problems, except the wireless of course but that is not a problem.

Anyhow, i wanted to create a dual boot with XP on my t30 on a 60g 7200 rpm drive, created to partitions and am using a retail version of XP pro rather than the long drawn out install with the ibm cds. For some reason when i start the installer it will not find the volume to install on. After several tries I decided to repartition the whole drive again without XP and see if it would install, still same problem, I can go to the disk utility and identify the disk but it will not show up in the "select volume to install osx on" . :)

hmm, not sure how you're partitioning things. but this is what I did with 10.4.5

installed xp by creating my xp partition and leaving 20gigs unpartitioned.

next, went into the osx disk utility and found the empty space so, I partitioned that for osx.

Basically i tried the same thing as you the first time, however I did create two ntfs partitions, first one went to windows and was hoping to be able to install osx on the second.

Which file system did you format to with the disk utility? i tried using the journaled setting in the drop down menu.

you cannot format the partition in xp for osx. just leave empty space. i just "journaled" for osx (the default).

I used partion commander to partition the drives, guess i'll try it again tomorrow, sure will be cool to have that dual boot. Is there any hope for wireless driver support for my t42? I was googling earlier today and found zilch.

Problem fixed :) Guess it was lack of sleep.

EDIT: T30 now dual boots OS 10.4.4 and XP pro :D
