What about getting an external audio pcmcia card solution?

Not sure about PCMCIA. I have an external USB Audio soundcard. It works out of the box with iTunes.

problem with that is that its bulky. but out of curiosity what is the make and model of your usb sound cardd?

M-audio transit.

I actually bought and sold an Echo Indigo before getting the transit. I don't need 24/96 sound on the road and found USB solution much easier to unplug.

My T43 audio works out of the box on OSX, no patching necessary.

T43 has a different sound chip than the T60, that's what this is basically about.
