Thought this would be a good post for people thinking of installing osx on their machines. They can see similar machines and their status.
Anyways I'm on a T42 and after some driver hacking, i have open gl on my mobility 7500 and soundworking on my soundmax. getting sound working was a pain. no wifi my atheros card should be here in a week or two.
I'm using 10.4.5 universal.install.dvd

Not going into any great detail here but my t42 is running 10.4 quite nicely. There is an issue with the track point so I am just using the touch pad mostly. The wireless is a no go. Been using it more and more recently as we need it to demo some of our network devices for mac.
I'm liking it, what a great combination, osx on thinkpad.

R40 (2722-6YU):
Running 10.4.6 w/o any major issues. I've been messing with
OSX since the first deadmoo 10.4.1 image became available.
Getting 10.4.3 installed was a real pain, but 10.4.6 was much
easier for me. For wireless I just use a dlink dwl-g122 usb wireless
adapter. By removing the ati kext's I am able to get 1400x1050
resolution. Sound and onboard ethernet work w/o issues.
I am able to use it on a daily basis.
P.S. for the trackpoint issue, I found that it works after a reboot.
So what I do is:
Turn on TP
At darwin boot prompt type -s to boot into single-user mode
At the root prompt type, reboot
After that once the machine restarts the trackpoint works until the
machine is powered off again. Don't know why it does that, but
it has done that since 10.4.3.

Thanks for that advice, I was able to get it to work by disabling some of the touchpad features, but honestly I actually like the touchpad and trackpoint about equally so using the touchpad with mac is a non issue, I love tiger, what a great OS. I can kind of see why people are diehard macinators now.
Definately going to pick up the d-link and give that a try, I was also thinking about a pcmcia wireless.

Atheros (IBM) wifi cards work natively under OS X (10.4.4 or later) as though it was a genuine Apple Airport card.

I've got OSX 10.4.5 working on a T42p. Ethernet, wireless, bluetooth, sound, and video (kind of) work.
As mentioned before, there is tearing if you use the higher resolutions (1400x1050 in my case) - my workaround for this is to use 1280x1024 as the default resolution and then turn off the screen expansion functionality in the BIOS. You lose some workspace but you don't have to deal with the tearing.
Unfortunately, the mouse artifacts are still there but it can be minimized by using a program called Mouse Locator. Check the osxproject.org forums for more details on that.

Do you have a part #? I would like to get one so I can be
rid of my usb wireless. Thanks!

You can look it up as easily as I could, or just post a want to buy in the marketplace for an Atheros card.

rjenovai, was the D-Link plug and play or did you have to tweak something. I bought one today and my system won't recognize it.

Couple of things:
1. Check the sticker on the back, make sure it's hardware ver B1
2. If it is, get the driver from here:
http://www.ralinktech.com/drivers/Mac/S ... _11_29.dmg
Make sure the device is unplugged before you install the drivers.
Also, it won't recognize the device if it's plugged in during boot up.
Plug it in after booting up.

Can you post more details about your wifi (atheros, i assume), sound fix and keyboard/trackpad/trackpoint fix?
Thanks.

wifi> ordered atheros ar5004g off ebay, worked out of the box.
keyboard/trackpad/trackpoint i had to use kext from 10.4.3 and fix permissions
sound was soundmax, again had to fix permissions.
disk utility>fix permissions didnt do it, had to do thru terminal.
on osx86project.org forum, go to the installation section and look for the soundmax 99.9% sure fix thread, you can use that method for the keyboard and stuff too.

3. 1200x1024 on external monitor (1024x800 works)
4. Open GL (I suppose it isn't working, don't know how to test it)
5. mp3s (sound works from quicktime apple.com ads on firefox and safari, but mp3s don't work on quicktinme or other programs)
6. Windows Media Player on websites (i installed it, though)
7. Can't view some folders on my NTFS external USB hard drive, even though only some of the folders in it are encrypted. Can view most folders and files, even encrypted ones.
8. Power Management, Sleep Function

Ujeni.net, how did you get the FireGL V5200 to work & what wireless do you have (Intel 3945 or Atheros AR50006EX)?
I managed a full install of OSX86 10.4.6 on my T60p (see sig) with the following shortcomings:
- No Audio (can anyone can get this to work?)
- No Wireless (have Intel 3945 | Atheros AR50006EX is on order from Lenovo (FRU: 40Y7026) )
- Video at 1024x768 with NO acceleration ( dying to fix this somehow )
- ACPI problems... will freeze if left alone for a while... (unsure how to fix)
If anyone can help with any of the above it will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

ssimon,
Here is how I got my 14" t60p to allow the v5200v card to work with OSX 10.4.5..your mileage may vary of course if your configuration is different.
Ok, for 1400x1050, you need to go to:
Hard Disk > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration > com.apple.Boot.plist
Open it in TextEdit and change the last two lines inside the <dict> tag to:
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1400x1050x32</string>
So mine looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "
http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string></string>
<key>Boot Graphics</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>5</string>
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1400x1050x32</string>
</dict>
</plist>
for the graphics card, go to:
Hard Disk > System > Library > Extensions > ATIRadeonX1000.kext
Right-click on the files and select "show package contents"...inside the "contents" folder, open the "info.plist" file.
The mac book pro has the consumer version of the v5200 (called the x1600). Merely changing one number in this file will fool OSX into thinking the v5200 on your t60p is an x1600.
search for "71C5" in the file and replace it with "71C4"
Save the file and exit (you will need root access privileges for this of course).
That should do it...restart and you should be in good shape.

Hello
I've got 10.4.4 installed on my t42 and I've got some issues there with it - particularly with ethernet and wifi, neither of which work straight out. Trying to figure out what to do next with those two.
My machine specs:
T42 2378-REU
15" sxga 1400x1050
Mob Rad 9600 64MB
1.5 GB RAM
40GB Hitachi travelstar 5400 (dedicated for MacOS)
IBM a/b/g Atheros 5212 wifi
Ethernet Intel 82540EP
Fingerprint reader
works straight out:
- video (1024x768)
- audio
- external microsoft tilt wheel mouse
- ultranav, touchpad (no issues)
- biometric coprocessor identified correctly - haven't tried it
what doesn't work:
- ethernet
- wifi
- resolution to 1400x1050
haven't tried:
- power management features
Here's the thread in which I list all my particulars and a running log:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=20764
Any help on getting the ethernet to work would be greatly appreciated (seems I'll need the extensions from 10.4.3 but, obviously I don't have those and can't get them).
cheers

bla....
Nevermind... I took MacOs off the machine.
While it was interesting to see if it runs, etc, this piece of software is definitely not for me. The 'bouncing icons', sounds, and all that eye-candy was just too much for my taste. I've forgotten how utterly (I won't say it out loud) Mac OS really is (with an interface like that, I mean - the guts are fine). It may be powerful for video, sound, image editing, but ... well - I don't do much of those anyways.
:/

Many thanks Ujeni.net! I had forgotten about this post and just now stubled back onto it in my search for a Video Fix.
I finally got the Atheros AR50006EX from Lenovo (FRU: 40Y7026) but it seems it ONLY works in 10.4.5 Trying to upgrade to 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 you loose the Wireless. I tried copying the kext from 10.4.5 with no luck...
I will try the video fix and post back....
BTW, I saw a post about the fact that someone got the darn
AD1981HD audio on the T60 & X60 to work. Check it out
HERE and report your mileage...

Yes Ujeni, I can also confirm that the Audio tutorial I found and linked 2 posts above DOES work, however the Microphone & line IN do NOT!!! I really need to get that to work so I can use Skype... Any ideas?
I can also confirm the FireGL V5200 working in accelerated mode following the instructions posted by Ujeni.net above! I do however get mouse tearing at 1400x1050x32. Does anyone else?
Last thing I really need to get working is wireless and while it works in 10.4.5 I cannot get it to work in 10.4.6 Unfortunately I cannot re-install OSX86 as erasing the existing 10.4.6 and installing 10.4.5 in the same partition yelds a "chain boot error"!!! I do not want to repartition using the OSX disk utility as that deletes all the partitions. Does anyone have a fix for this?

OK, my Lenovo T60p (specs in sig) working about 90% in 10.4.6 (will upgrade to 10.4.7 soon)
Here is what
works:
* ATI V5200 Video (1400x1050x32 QE/CI but with mouse tearing - semi-fixed with Mouse Locator). Cannot change resolution under preferences, hardset in boot config file.
* Battery indicator (using hacked "PowerManagement.bundle")
* Bluetooth (darn thing works better than anything and all by itself. Even indicator lights up.)
* Intel Gigabit Ethernet (out of the "box" functionality)
* Wireless (replaced Intel with
ATHEROS and messed with it for 3 days till it finally worked). WPA & WPA2 support all work! Thinkpad wireless indicator at the bottom of the screen does not light up.!
* Audio (2 speaker output only! No Line-In, no Microphone

)
* SMB shares work again (using 10.4.5 smbfs extension)
* USB 2.0
* SATA in either AHCI or Compatibility mode
What still does
not work:
* Sleep - this crashes the system hard!
* Audio IN and Microphone

- Really need this to Skype!!!
* Wireless Indicator Light
* Sierra Wireless WWAN
* S.M.A.R.T. for the HD (not recognized as being there it seems)
* Fingerprint Reader and TPM Chip (guess this was expected)

X41 2525-6NH
Tested 10.4.5 & 10.4.6 & 10.4.7
All working except for sleep. This guy has it sleep working in 10.4.6 on an x41:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php? ... 912&st=120
DVD playback is great with VLC and my external 3rd party USB DVD-CDRW drive. CD writing also works
Battery meter works after doing this:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=14912
LCD works if select Fn-F7 at startup just before or after a blue screen appears or alternatively poke 1 wire between pins 1-6 and another between pins 2-12 of the external VGA connector:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=14912
Bluetooth works inc. using Fn-F5 keys to switch it on and off (brings up a nice OS X BT icon)
Initially bought a D-Link USB wireless key for wireless networking -> DWL-G122 version 3.00. Needed to install the Mac OS X USB drivers:
http://www.ralinktech.com/drivers/Mac/R ... _07_07.dmg
Apparently Netgear WG511T PCMCIA card works out of the box bringing up the Airport Express icon in OS X.
Later got the IBM MiniPCI wireless card #73P4302 inorder to have the Fn-F5 switch, LED & Airport Express icon working.
Don't waste your time hacking to get non IBM MiniPCI wireless cards to work with the X41 as none of the current BIOS hacks work for this model.
The IBM MiniPCI wireless card #73P4302 needs the following hack if not using 10.4.5:
Get /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext && /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.5
Copy both to /System/Library/Extensions/ in 10.4.7
chmod -R 755 IO80211Family.kext
chown -R root:wheel IO80211Family.kext
Reboot & goto Internet Connect
Need to enable the Airport Staus icon to see it in title bar
Maybe need to open /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
-> Change en0 to en1 && 0 to 1
Apparently you can also do this if you don't have access to 10.4.5:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=29442
Built in ethernet also works see:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php? ... 4987&st=20
Then to set your Mac address to the following in a terminal:
sudo ifconfig en3 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
-> Where "en3" is your built in ethernet (HINT iconfig -a) and "xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" is your mac address (HINT ipconfig /all in windows)

Hi, I have 10.4.6 HOTISO running on my T42P 2373W6M.
Working
- Video 1600x1200x32
- Sound
- Bluetooth
- Ethernet
- USB
- ACPI CPU Throttling (to 1200MHz) (hopefully to 600MHz w 10.4.7.)
- PowerManagement Battery Display

~ WLAN (with Atheros, IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.5. )
Not Working
- DVD (DVD Player freezes the machine)
- Sleep and Hibernate
- Monitoring CPU/System temperatur, fan state
- Boottime is a bit too long, system hangs
Not tested yet
- external Video port
- Infrared
- Disc I/O DMA
- CD/DVD Burning
For the WLAN, after using the IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.5. WLAN worked pretty nice. SSID + WPA-Key = online,
BUT when rebooting the WLAN can't reconnect. The config in System Prefs/Network is still there...it says: Airport is turned on but not connected to the network (Red dot)
When checking the configuration everything seems fine, SSID is OK and WPA Key is OK, but no connection.
The Airport Status Icon in the menu bar is also missing (the option is turned off again).
When I set up a new configuration (1. turn on the status icon the menu bar 2. go to status icon and klick "Other..."
and key in my SSID and WPA key) the WLAN works again....till the next reboot.
The config is also lost when I turn off Airport and want to turn it on again...
I have the same problem with my settings for the keyboard layout (changing Option/Control Buttons). After reboot I have the defaults.
I think it could be a problem of user rights. In the Console I get the following message:
Code: Select all
Sep 6 14:39:16 mycomputer /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport: Error: owner of process not logged in on console - exiting.
Maybe one can help me with this problem. Thanks
