with OSX on thinkpad. Checked out a couple of sites, looks like openoffice has a freeware download but will it work with intel macs. I've noticed there are a couple of programs specifically built for intel mac.
Any ideas appreciated.

I've been very happy with Nisus Writer Express, but it is not a free program. The current version also supports Intel Macs.

I use abiword. it's free and handles .doc and other popular formats.

Of course the best solution is still Office 2004:Mac, which runs under Rosetta PowerPC emulation on Intel Macs. It is the only game in town if you don't want to reformat all of your complex documents every time you open them.
