OS X install stalls at blue screen on X41

#1 Post by asiafish » Fri Aug 11, 2006 8:04 pm

My X41 in the X4 will boot OS X (10.4.6 JAS DVD), but once the gray screen finishes and it goes to blue, instead of getting the dialogs, it just sits there at blue.

What am I doing wrong? Is there some setting I have to make on the BIOS for the drive or the graphics?

Help please, I really want OS X on this thing now that I've sold my MacBook.

Try booting it with an external montior plugged in.
I think i've had that happen to me before and its because it doesn't recognize the screen resolution.. it sets at default which is 800*600 i think.

Give the external a try..

I did, and it works fine from an external monitor, but cannot be made to work WITHOUT the external monitor at all.

Yea.. there's a interal fix to it.. you have to edit the display settings..

Or there's an hardware hack to it. Beware the hardware hack.. It works and all.. but what you have to do is put in peices of wire into the VGA port to make it think there's a external plugged in. When i did the external hardware hack because i was frustrated with the internal one not working properly.. THe pieices of wire got stuck inside my VGA port. I ended up returning the Thinkpad as it was under my 30 day return perod.

As Jerry Pournelle has said many times, when MAC works well, it works well. When it doesn't, it's a horror show. Between this, and all the trouble people have with Linux, I'll just stick with Windows. :) I am not flaming anyone else's choices - we all should do as we please. ... JDH
