Does specific Atheros network card matter?

#1 Post by viper11885 » Sun Aug 13, 2006 2:33 am

Hey,

I have Mac OS installed on my T60. However, the wireless card is not working (intel card).

I was wondering if I had to only use the atheros card on the IBM site? Is it possible to use a different model number??

Reason why I am asking is because I searching on Ebay and can get a hold of an Atheros card for a lower price. Although the model number is different.

Thanks a bunch.

If you use a non-IBM card you will probably get the dreaded 1802 error. Best to spend the extra $20 or so and get the IBM card.

Thanks for the input.

I was thinking the same thing since I hear that the IBM Atheros card is fully compatible.

I have a generic Atheros card that works great in my old Toshiba, but in my X41 it just prevents the machine from booting. The IBM card, however, works like a charm.

Depends on what you are putting it in. On the T60 is "should" work, but on a T4x or X4x machine it is the wrong format.

I haven't been able to test my own X41 in OS X as I can't get past the lue boot screen and into the installer, it just hangs at a screen of pretty blue.

Yep, it will work like a charm, just make sure NOT to install any of the wireless "fixes" on the optional install of OSX86. Best results seem to happen with 10.4.6 from Jas or HOTiSO (which is basically Jas but renamed) and then you can upgrade to 10.4.7 instantly with the JaS update and nothing will break as it has no kext.

I received my Atheros card, but it did not work out of the box, I had to replace the IO80211Family.kext with the one from the 10.4.5 Intel update. Now it works great!

I have the needed files for the Atheros wlan and the sound for OS X 10.4.8. I get them from my fully working X60 (atheros wlan). Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send it to you!

It is easy to put it to the right place and you have to run some commands in terminal (repair permission....).

Is the IBM atheros card work right away when you install it into the laptop? I'm currently having intel card with 1802 patch on my X31. I'm having bit trouble trying to learn how to modify using osx...
