Installation Problems on T30

#1 Post by crwfshkid » Mon Nov 27, 2006 1:33 pm

I've been going at this for a couple weeks now, with no success. I downloaded and burned JaS's 10.4.6 iso to install on my T30 (2366, 1Gb RAM). Even though I do the "Custom" install, it hangs and gives me the installation errors. After reformatting it to Apple's standards a couple of times and getting the same errors, I figured there was something wrong with the disc. Burned it again and got the same errors.

Tried the 10.4.6 Myzar iso. Same thing.

Reloaded Ubuntu Dapper and tried dding it to another partition. Failed.

Tried vmware with Ubuntu and it hangs as well.

Does anyone have the md5 checksums for the two isos? Maybe they are just bad copies.

Anyone have any other suggestions. I just want to see it work. The latest and greatest would be nice, but it I need another version, I totally understand.

Thre are actually two new versions since that one.

The 10.4.7 JaS iso I believe is the most stable, which uses a hacked 10.4.4 kernel (same as all previous versions, such as yours).

10.4.8 just came out, and is the first one to actually use the newest kernel 10.4.8 as well, but it hasn't been used as widely and proven across the board as 10.4.7, I believe.

Try the green demon...

New error

#4 Post by crwfshkid » Sat Dec 02, 2006 10:10 pm

I could not get the file from the green demon (anyone have an invite?), but I got it working under 10.4.1 using dd from an Ubuntu install. Work, but slowly. Eventually, the beach ball spins to death and when I reboot, it shuts down within 30 secs. Booting with -v, I find out there is a "B-tree node size" error and then it halts the CPU.

Is it a problem with the install or the distro or my T30?

Any takers?

thanks
janders

you shouldn't need an invite to dl a torrent, and this is not the place for torrent talk (just telling you before a mod does  )

FWIW, I managed to install 10.4.6 (HOTiSO) on my X60s, using VMware 5.5.3 build 34685. I also tried with 10.4.8 (JaS), but I couldn't reach the install screen.

I'm going to trying to install XxX 10.4.11 Rev 2. on my T30, can you provide me with a list of what drivers you chose to install... I'm fairly certain they'd be pretty much the same.

http://t30.fileave.com/T30.html (Memory is no issue, I'll be upgrading it to a gig in a week.)

I keep getting a b0 error... What should I choose for Kernels and Kexts and all in that tree, also ATA/USB Controllers..
