At boot press F8, then give the option
-s
which boots in single mode.
Then, when you get the command prompt, type:
/sbin/mount -uw /
and then delete the following kexts from /System/Library/Extensions/
AppleIOPCCardFamily.kext
ApplePCCardATA.kext
ApplePCCard16ATA.kext
and reboot, all should be fixed.

I'm curious, which kernel are you using? Semthex or mifki?

Brian,
just hit f8 repeatedly as your computer is booting up. Select the drive you want to use (arrows up or down) and type -v and hit enter.
This will tell you EXACTLY what is wrong (if you are booting 10.4.8 with semthex, it should tell you the names of some kext files. Boot into windows or off of a live cd (if you have windows, download macdrive and mount your mac partition on windows) and delete those files. Once you delete those kexts, it should boot fine!
Post back here to tell us the results,
