hi, i was wondering who would be interested in a disk patch which would auto-configure your thinkpad based on the model and disk you are using to install (meaning no actual kext modification, you just pop in a disk and check your model and everything works)

I thought that this is what System Update does?

try running system update and see if it fixes your audio, video, wireless, bluetooth, and other issues that arise. lol.

but seriously,
no, system update does not "fix" anything on a hacked mac; the fixing is done by patching the drivers (kexts) to get them to work with your hardware. This would be a install DVD patch that would add model-specific fixes to the dvd; this is similar to "slipstreaming" your windows xp install to have all of your drivers preinstalled for your particular model.

Did that make sense?

Yes, got it.

I (incorrectly) thought that the ThinkVantage Tools port was for both Linux and Mac environments.

Thanks

that said, i never fully described what "helping" would be. I would need people to submit EXACT methods that they used (step by step) for the thinkpad that they set up. I would then go and build up a database of which models have which hardware, and i would make a patch that matched the method of fixing one type of hardware (say a video card) to a model #. You would then pop in your patched mac os install disk and select 2623DDU(T60p) from the "customize" menu, and click install. You would boot up and your computer would have working sound, power management, the correct resolution, video acceleration, etc ALREADY working. A true 1 click solution for all thinkpads!

i'd be interested and greatful because my OSX 10.4 used to work great on my t30 but now on my t60 i am having some very basic issues that I can't even get solved after joining a mac forum. I really don't want to mention 'oh yeah this is bla blah' on a thinkpad.
