OSX on T30...working (kinda)

Hi Everyone.
I have been lurking around this forum for the past several weeks gathering info on how to get Mac OSX working on my T30. After fumbling around for the last week or so, here is what I got so far:

Hardware:

IBM ThinkPad T30 2366
1.6Ghz Pentium 4M (upgrading to 2 GHZ soon)
60GB HDD 7200 RPM (Windows XP on this drive)
20GB HDD 5400RPM? in Ultrabay slot (Mac OSX86 10.4.6)
386MB RAM (will upgrade to 1GB soon)
Standard 768x1024 display Radeon
crappy 11Mb wireless card (might go Atheron soon)

I am dual booting currently using the BIOS to switch between the internal drive and the UltraBay HDD.

What works:

Almost everything is working
-Display at full resolution and color
-On board ethernet
-trackpad
-volume buttons (no onscreen display)
-both USB ports (I have a 5GB USB HDD and I can see it with both OS's)
-DVD drive
-Bluetooth
-audio

What doesn't work

-Wireless
-powersaver (haven't really tried though)
-onscreen display
-sleep (haven't really tried though)

Problems to figure out

I'm still new to this and to OSX so I need to figure out these issues...

-Safari crashes when going to Yahoo and some other pages. I know there are a lot of discussions about this, but I haven't found the right solution yet.

-Occasional OS freezes
-applications freeze
-Firefox freezes

I know this has something to do with the whole sse2/sse3 rosetta thing, but haven't had the chance to read up on it (any links or information appreciated)

By the way, I also own 2 T22s, OSX doesn't boot on those (no surprise :P )

Ok I figured out what I did wrong.

At the OSX install screen, I chose "easy install" It must have either loaded everything including the AMD and SSE3 stuff, or it didn't load enough (ie SSE2 support)

I reinstalled everything and chose "custom installed" and selected only the components I need. The PC rebooted without a hitch, and things are much more stable. I even got the rosetta option this time :P . So I could run Safari without it crashing. Screen savers still don't work and it still occasionally freezes on some apps, but much better than the previous installs :o :D

Update...working okay now...still some stablility issues tho. I found a nice piece of software called "Mac drice" that allows you to see and write to HPS partitions from Windows XP...quite handy ;)

Cold you tell me the exact brand and model of the DVD player/burner you used during the install?

My DVD burner isn't recognized, so it can't be used...

Thanks!

Update: I got it all working by using another drive, pulled from my T23. (The one that wasn't recognized is a NEC ND-6500A)

Where did you get OS X from? Just buy it from apple and hit install?

Hi ziarim,

Could you tell me some more about your on board ethernet?
It's the only thing that doesn't work with my T30 2366 :(

Did it work right away or did you have to hack some kexts -> if so,
could you tell me which one you used and where you downloaded it from?

Many thanks in advance !
