I had about 3.5 hour working time on my x60 with 8 cell battery.
OS X has a very bad power management. I had to set minimum speed in bios, then it worked for 5 hours.

I had 10.4.8 but the speedstep not worked. My fan runs on maximum speed, and it blowed out a cold air. There was no task runnig with high demand.

Thanks for answering. Did you manage to find out why your speed step was not working?

Found the same... 3.5-4 hours with 8 cells battery.
Speedstep doesn't work simply because not supported hardware.
You can't get everything, can you? ;)
TP X23 +UBX2 +cdrw
