Hi, all,
According to other posts, I think I am fine with all my hardware except this screen resolution (I have thinkpad wireless card). Is there anyone out there who already got 1680X1050?
regards

I am also very interested in hearing about how to get 1680x1050 resolution to work on my TP60p.

have you tried hard-coding the resolution?

If you run the standard VESA drivers and forego QE/CI, you can just hardcode the resolution into the com.apple.boot.plist file.

I have 1680x1050 working on my T60p, QE and CI is working as well.
Yes, you can hardcode your resolution into com.apple.boot.plist, but at first it will not be supported.
Under Leopard, I'm using the following kexts to make this work:
http://rapidshare.com/files/74577871/AT ... s.zip.html
I assume you know how to install these - don't forget to chown and chmod.
For the record:
these are for the ATI FireGL V5250 graphics card which came standard in my T60p. The device-id for this device is 0x71d4 (vendor ID is 0x1002).

Are those kexts specific to Leopard? I'm using the Callisto kexts designed for Tiger for my x300 in my T43, but Callisto has since discontinued development.

I don't think they are specific to Leopard, but I thought I'd just mention it.
I think you can just try them under Tiger.
Just make sure you make notes of what files you should delete from the command line if you get a kernel panic.

Thank you, thank you! These work perfectly with FireGL5250!

I actually don't know how to install those - I assume it's more complicated than just copying them to the folder with the other ATI kexts, because I don't know what chown and chmod mean (and also because I tried that and it didn't work). Can anyone help me out?

Once you copy files to the Extensions folder, run the following
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions
sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

Hm. I tried that, and when I rebooted, I got the gray apple loading screen (in the correct resolution!), but then the screen blinked and went black. Perhaps those kexts don't work with 10.4.8? Maybe there is an easy way to modify them so that they do?

it's strange, while I can get to 1680 x 1050 resolution, I cannot get my laptop working at 1400 x 1050. Hardcoding the resolution doesn't seem to make a difference.
Does anybody have any suggestions how to force 1400x1050x32?

Well, after some reading your posts on insanelymac I ended up adding my monitor EDID to the ATIinject file and now both QE and CE work wonderfully on my FireGL 5250 @ 1400x1050.
Thank you so much, you're the man!

Don't suppose you've got any ideas as to why those kexts don't seem to quite work with 10.4.8?

Could you please share that file?

Attached... Note that it will work only with FireGL 5250 running 1400x1050. Simply replace the attached kext files and you should be good.

1680X1050 with stock Intel Card on my T60 is running fine. Did not have to hard code or do anything for it to work...

Add me to the list that would like to find out how to get dual monitor to work - especially through my docking station. The T60p runs OS X so nicely, but I'm so used to running with 2 monitors under XP that it's hard to go back to just the LCD (I use vmware and run VM's on the 2nd monitor).
If I boot with my laptop docked, it starts up on the external monitor, but then switches back to my LCD and the external monitor is not seen inside of leopard.
