after updating does not boot anymore!

#1 Post by dorin » Fri Aug 03, 2007 7:18 am

hi there,

so i installed today 10.4.8, except atheros and 2nd partition from hdd0 not being accesable, i wont online, lan, give an update, and after that, just dead! i shouldnt make updates to the core (to 10.4.10) when using Jas versions?

thanks,

dorin

You should never use the Apple provided system updates. The JaS release and others are specially modified to run on generic PCs. By updating, you overwrite the modified programs and software with Apple's, which only work on Apple's machines.

Even non-system updates are risky: there are reports of newer iTunes or QuickTime versions breaking things badly. Bottom line: you get what you paid for, but if you want to keep a working system, only use well-tested updates from the OSX86 folks like JaS or uphuck, and of course, back up often.

yeap, i figured that out....
osx work perfect on my x40! but really really fast, way much faster than windows!
the only issue is the wireless, i had to put back the intel 2200 because atheros card- fru 93p3475 (Atheros AR5004G - according to a site) didnt work at all, and other users they report out of the box functionality... that's annoying, cause the intels coverage on my balcony for ex kinda gets lost...

Which version did you install from? With uphuck 1.3, I had out-of-the-box support for the Atheros on my X40. If you want to experiment, I can send you the kext that works for me.

i kept on digging and i found instruction on how to make the atheros to work! i have jas 10.4.8 and in this moment i can say i have a very sparky osx! if i'll manage to make the card reader (cardbus, i know that sd reader is put of the question) then osx will be my primary operating system, way much faster than oldie windows...i need it to transfer pics BUT

the BIG problem is whenever i boot it from batery it crawls....biiiiig time! how's yours in this situation?

cheers,
dorin
