Hey, guys!

I have just installed OSX on my T43 on the ultrabay HD. It works great but does anyone know how to get the Wifi and sleep mode working? Also, battery life indicator is not showing up. I am hoping that there are some of you thinkpad OSX users that have already figured out how to fix these problems.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Ken

Hm. I am guessing that you installed JaS 10.4.8. Did you pick the SSE2/Power Management package? If you did, the power management should be enabled. If not, I believe that there is a 10.4.6 ACPI package that would give you the battery indicator. As for sleep? That's the million dollar winning prize that no one seemed to have been able to crack - sleep/hibernate does not seem to work reliably or properly across all 10.4 versions, and frankly, I do not place any hope that 10.5 would be any better. OSX does not support BIOS/ACPI sleep states all that well, as it's an EFI based system. As for wireless? It depends on which card you are dealing with. The Intel cards are not supported (or more accurately, not supported to the point where it is reliable). Atheros based IBM cards are much better in that regard as it is considered Airport native. You would still need to grab/install the 2/2007 Airport Extreme driver update and modify the plist to include the pci-id of your card to make it work, and PERHAPS delete the network configuration setup so OSX will redetect it and reallocate it properly.

Thanks for your reply, ragefury32.

Yes, I installed Jas 10.4.8, and also picked SSE2. I did get the battery indicator going. Thank you!!!! On the sleep issue, I realized that if I chose sleep on the apple drop down menu, my hard drive shuts off, but I can still hear the fan going and I the CPU is still running. It is interesting that the hard drive shuts down, though. Hummm....

I guess the main thing to me is to get the WIFI going. I have been following the threads on InsanelyMac on the issue. The brains are working on a patch to get 2200b/g intel cards to work, as well as some other cards. I was hoping to not have to change cards since my main HD is running XP just fine. I did not want to mess up my native set up--just wanted to get the OSX running on the ultrabay HD independantly. But, I may end up doing what you said and install the Atheros card.

I did get a patch loaded (from InsanelyMac OSX-86 project) that was supposed to get wireless going on my 2200 card. It loaded okay and the wireless icon showed up on the top, but I have yet to actually get internet connections. It is supposed to work on unsecured networks only. I think it will just be a matter of time until the thinkers get this worked out.

Thanks again for your reply. If you hear anything more, please let me know.

I'll post if I get this WIFI working and let everyone know how.
