help with screen resolution, x3100

#1 Post by lmwong » Tue Jan 22, 2008 11:47 am

Hi, I know there are a ton of post about screen resolution, but none seem to be working for me.

I have a T61 14" widescreen 7658, Intel GMA X3100 GM965 video and installed Jas 10.4.6 successfully. VESA v3.0. I've done the <key>Graphics Mode</key><string>1440x900x32</string>, without success. I've tried "Graphics Mode"="1440x900x32", without success. At Darwin boot, with ?video, the highest resolution listed is only 1024x768. I've seen posts about a Natit kernel, but I'm not sure if this applies to me. Do I need CI or QE working? Any help to get higher resolution would be great. Thanks.

Still no luck. I've tried SwitchResX. I've tried installing a Natit.kext and deleting the AppleIntelFrameBuffer.kext.

I've got OS X Leopard (10.5.1) working with full graphics support (1440x900) on my T61 widescreen with X3100. I installed using the iATKOS 1.0rc2 DVD, which is the only distribution I know of (so far) that has working X3100 drivers you can load.

Thanks, I'll give this a try.

Thinkpad T61 14" Standard and Leopard

#6 Post by dbexternal » Fri Feb 08, 2008 8:02 pm

Was wondering if anyone had any idea if Leopard worked okay on a standard size 14" (1400X1050) T61?

Thanks!

Natit.kext & X3100 = different result, but still doesnt

#7 Post by stueng » Fri Feb 15, 2008 6:22 am

Please could you explain in a bit of detail how you go this working, I will detail the steps I took and the results I have found to make this easier for anyone replying

I installed Kalyway by booting the install CD and parsing the -x -v boot options. I installed in MBR mode into a 20GB partition and selected MBR boot from the install options - I didnt choose anything else, just MBR boot from the install options

After the install completed and machine booted from hard disk I got as far as the spinning apple logo and then nothing

I rebooted into -x completed the user setup thing and copied Natix.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

Changed to the /System/Library/Extensions directory

sudo chown -R root:wheel Natit.kext/
sudo chmod -R 755 Natit.kext/

kextload Natit.kext

This gave me a appears to have loaded succesfully message back

Rebooted the machine and this time it got further than the spinning apple logo and got me to a blue screen - no further, after about 10mins the screen went black and I had a garbled mouse cursor that I could move around the screen but noting more, just this simple black screen with garbled mouse cursor

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks
Stu
