Yes, I did it, Got RIP of Vista 15min after tested all works of my new X300...
I installed Kalyway Leopard, got some trouble with graphic card, but with -x for login on safe mode, delete all AppleIntel95*, installed natif.kext and reboot, wow, the graphic works with dual screen.
But, sound, Bluetooth, Lan and Wireless dont work
I tried to remplace also the wireless Intel 4965ABGN by a IBM Thinkpad ABGN (works as Air Port Extreme on my x60s) but got 1084 error (suck Lenovo)
The speed is great, very fast on boot times vs with my MBP with 7200rpm hdd, i'm watting for my MBA SSD to complet my review

sleep work but when wakeup , get bad graphic mode

btw, i think with some tweak, with Power Manager Kext, you can get sleep et wakeup work.

Thanks for this info - I just got my x300 and want to try this. A few questions:
1. Which Kalaway did you use? 10.5.1, or the newer 10.5.2?
2. Did you completely wipe your drive, or did you just make a new partition? If the latter, did you also keep the small recovery partition? Any details on this step would be greatly appreciated.
3. Have you had any further luck in fixing sound, bluetooth, LAN, wireless, and power management?
Thanks...

10.5.1 and update with Kalaway 10.5.2 Combo update
2. Did you completely wipe your drive, or did you just make a new partition? If the latter, did you also keep the small recovery partition? Any details on this step would be greatly appreciated.
I wipe completety Vista 32bit and install Leopard - Please note that: no recovery partition on X300 (it have 60gb space only - because 64gb HDD = 60Gb utilisable)
3. Have you had any further luck in fixing sound, bluetooth, LAN, wireless, and power management?
I tried to mod the Bios with Zender Lenovo BIOS mod, the WLAN works (Atheros A/B/G/N detected as Airport Extreme) but not Sound / BT / LAN / PM
Now, i'm happy with Vista x64 SP1 on my X300

so you had to mod the BIOS and get an Atheros WiFi card to get wireless working?
what about speedstep?

Oh OK - I have an XP x300 (not Vista), and there is a small recovery partition I believe...
I tried to mod the Bios with Zender Lenovo BIOS mod, the WLAN works (Atheros A/B/G/N detected as Airport Extreme) but not Sound / BT / LAN / PM
That's discouraging, especially about the Sound and LAN....
Thanks for the reports - would love to hear from anyone else who's tried!

I need some help with installing iATKOS 2.0i on the X300.
What options did you guys choose?
i.e., ACPI, SMBIOS, remove thermal ktext, etc?
my trackpad doesn't work properly.

I never ended up trying - I was too discouraged by what I'd read thus far, in terms of no support for some of the funtions... please let us know if you get further though!

I want to be able to run OS X on a lenovo X300 so that I can have an OS X Lenovo X300.
I love this machine, but really love OS X as well and could not bare to switch to Windows or Linux just to use this machine.
Of course I would need Sound and Wifi to start at least then Power management (else it's not really that portable).
I'm willing to hack. Are there any pointers on what needs to be done to get this thing working fully with OS X? Is that even possible?

Also, what about the trackpad? Does it work with multi-touch gestures like 2-finger scrolling and whatnot?

I've heard that there're some working solution, but that may make the trackpoint stop working

After some tries on my X300, i have got to install Leopard 10.5.2.
Airport working 100% with a diferent minipci wifi card.
Bluetooth working 100%
3G-hsdpa working 100%, with a diferent card.
The booting time is less that 10 seconds. Incredibly fast on everything.

Thanks - can you post details about how you did it, which OSx86 release you used, etc..?
Also, what about power management, webcam, etc... - are those working as well?

Hi Trifero. Nicely done! Please give us some more information:
(1) What does NOT work? (example: Speakers, Headphone, Standby/Sleep, Trackpad, etc)
(2) Which HSDPA card did you use, and Which Airport card did you use?
(3) Which 10.5.2 Image/distribution did you use? Any special instructions for all drivers, etc?
(4) How many hours of battery time you are getting?
Cheers

Hi, say again. Ill try to help you, thoug now its not installed on my X300. I boought the Lenovo only some monts ago, but just while waiting foir the new Macbooks. Im now waiting to receive mine in a few days ( ¡¡ yupi¡¡)
Speakers, Headphone, Standby/Sleep, Ethernet doesnt work. Trackpad i dont know, cause i have never use it. Just Trackball, tha works ok.
The Hsdpa card is an MC8780 , working with the Sierra 3GWatcher software. I couldnt make it work the MC8775.
The aisport card is Gigabyte N300 dual Minicard Aircruiser. Recognized as an airport card, works from the Airport utility.
I tried Ideneb, Atkos, etc., but the one it worked for me was Kalyway 10.5.2. Choose Speedstep, Kernel Mac pro and SSE2 Jas1408 Acpic_Apic. No more.
I hope its usefull for you.

Thanks for your help. I will buy the Aircruiser when everything else is working (will use D-link USB Wifi for now). I already own MC8775 so I must try it again maybe you missed something. I will try the new 10.5.5 Ideneb just to see if it works, and then Kalyway 10.5.2 you suggest. I must have Audio working -- so Ioreg here I come... Will keep the thread posted.

I thought I might detail my efforts on continuing Trifero's work:
I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 succesfully, and iDeneb 10.5.5 succesfully.
Kalyway 10.5.2 X3100 driver works 1440x900 out of the box, while iDeneb requires some playing with. Hardware thoughts:
*Wifi - must buy alternative internal card (mini pci express), or pull one out of your old Thinkpad (many have Atheros-based cards, which are compatible out-of-the-box). I currently use USB-WiFi until I get a compatible internal card, or "brick" my X41.. whichever comes first
*Video - still working on Hardware Acceleration to work (QE/CI), I think it'll be ok. Also, I am still having issues with External-monitor in display-mirror mode, working on it. (Extended Desktop is working fine at WXGA resolution). But at least for now it supports all resolutions.
*TrackPoint + TrackPad work fine. Although the middle-trackpoint-button for hold-and-scroll works in FireFox for scrolling, but it still doesn't work in other apps - working on it.
*AT&T/Vodafone WWAN Sierra Wireless MC8775 - should work but doesn't yet. Reason is there's a Native Driver shipped with Leopard 10.5.0, but it was removed on later releases (10.5.2), trying to obtain it. Other users confirm they have MC8775 working great, so I'm still working on it - Although I made Watcher recognize the card (by telling it the Lenovo unique device-id), it still doesn't recognize carrier, and requires more tuning. Alternatives are MC8780/81/85 (all of which should be easily disassembled from their USB counterparts (881U/885U), which are potentially given free by your Carriers). Also note that if you have MC8775 non-Lenovo (purchased seprately and Z-nder'ed) then it may work with less trouble.
*Audio - will work. Driver is in the wild already (1984) which I need to work on getting it work. But reports are the Audio-Sub-Card is not working - so 3.5mm jacks not working yet. I still don't know if the Internal-Microphone will work. Volume buttons on X300 are working well with OSD.
*PowerManagement - ShutDown+Restart working. Sleep works but hangs after wakeup - patch exists fr this, just need to get around to it. SpeedStep - (for battery life) I installed patch for this but need to test. Battery meter working - I have single battery - but there's also patch to give correct info on Dual-Batteries (for people who have internal CD-ROM Bay battery)
*Camera - I have driver (Chicony), need to test it.
*fingerprint ready appears to work. I don't use it.
*Bluetooth works out of the box
*USB external inputs/outputs should most work out of the box, including kb/mouse/printer/scanner/camera
*DVD-Recording - working great on 10.5.2, but not working on 10.5.5, working on it.
*Ethernet - one developer ("Turbo") has made a working driver for 10.5.x, but he is still perfecting it prior to releasing it to public.
**********************************************
For people who want to test it out and perhaps help out- you'll be happy to know you can install into a USB-drive without problems. it doesn't touch anything on your internal harddrive, and even does not install any bootloader on it. you just need to make the boot-order to boot from DVD+USB before HDD. when USB is connected it'll boot from it.

UPDATE:
Using iAtkos v4.1i --- 10.5.4, stock (native) vanilla kernel:
1. Video - Fully working with Hardware Acceleration (QE/CI). 1440x900 working, 1280x800 working too. No tricks required to boot. [just remove *Intel* and install a pack of 6 kexts, voilla]
2. Audio - Working!! (loud speakers only, headphone/mic still need to work on) [just remove *HDA and *Azalia and install a single kext, voilla]
3. SpeedStep - Working great [OOB with iAtkos 4.1i included new kext]
4. Battery meter - Working Accurately [OOB with iAtkis 4.1i kext]
5. Sleep - goes to full sleep, but immediately wakes up afterwards. Will work on it soon.
6. WWAN Sierra MC8775 (US-AT&T) - I'm almost there.... (Seeing Carrier, getting Good signal... but not yet connected.. give me a day..)
7. Ethernet - Driver now exists with 10Mbps performance. But some user reported it interferes with Audio, will check it out soon.

Has anybody had anymore luck with this? I tried Kalyway 10.5.2 and i was able to install it, but nothing really works other than syncing my iPhone with iTunes. I have an atheros wifi card on the way so I can use the internet, but I still have no sound. I can deal with the sleep issue. I just really want wi-fi and sound to work, preferably sound from the headphone out also. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

I've uploaded the Sound Card kext. You need to remove AppleHDA and Azalia before installing this one. Here's how:
Code: Select all
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Azal*
then use kext helper to install the kext
and reboot
I will make an Install Guide for 10.5.5 sometime soon, if you have patience
the kext:

^Thanks. It didn't work. It installed and its in my extensions folder after using kext helper. Can't hear sound still. Oh well. I appreciate your help though.
I wouldn't mind waiting for the guide, but I'm completely fine with 10.5.2. All I really want out of it is working video, sound, wifi and input devices. If camera, finger print reader, light, and other stuff work, then cool, but I'll survive without them.

When you were intalling Kalyway 10.5.2, what was the configuration did you choose on the installation disk before it boot up properly into Leopard? Thanks very much for your answer.

I used the same as above if I recall correctly.
Hi, has anyone had any better luck to get sound, video, and internet working with this? I like my X300 a lot and would love to be able to get OSX running on it. Thanks.

Hi nineohtoo,
I got my X300 working with iATKOS 5 10.5.5. After trying several options, it booted fine though the graphics comes up a little messed up. But you can boot into the safe mode and install x3100 kexts that someone successfully installed in T60 or T61 (one of which also has x3100 graphics). It is discussed in one of the listings in this group.
You can also find discussion of drivers for ethernet kexts for the ethernet chip on T61 on insanelymac. (Forget the chip name) but you can also find it on insanelymac site or just google and go through the listing. It will give you on-board ethernet though not at gigabit speed. I find it fast enough.
In order to get wifi working, need to install an atheros or compatible wifi card. You can get one on ebay and do a bios mod (detailed on T4* or T6* board). There is someone who send you where to download and steps. WIth iAtkos 5, there is minimum kext change. It may recognize as you boot it or rebuild the kext library.
I haven't messed around with sound but on-board will not work without loading some audio kext, which I haven't bothered with. But you can get will work via USB headset or USB audio adapter.
BTW onboard webcam will work right away so skype will work fine if you have a USB headset.
There is a lot of aggravation but patience will get you a stable notebook. The OsX86 crashed perhaps only once in last 3+ months of usage. Web browsers tend to crash more often but that also happens with macs I have.
Unfortunately sleep and energy saving will not work. Also, cannot control brightness. Besides that a thinkpad running OsX86 is a fine machine. Superior and more fun to use in many ways than a macbook or a mackbook pro. Confirms that Apple's value is in their software, not their somewhat-to-definitely overpriced hardware.
Hope this helps.

Hi Sanjuro,
Could you post the kext files you used? I tried hard, but can't quite find matching kexts from this forum (or Insanelymac).
Thanks a million.

You should download the GMAX3100 kext here.
http://www.mediafire.com/?zmycm0mmny0
Remove the existing kexts before replacing with the downloaded ones following the directions here:
http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=229
Rebuild the library and reboot. Should work.
