Problems with video and wireless - T60P - Kalyway 10.5.1

#1 Post by carters2 » Fri Apr 11, 2008 11:52 am

I was able to get the sound working no problem. As for the video and wireless that a different story. I downloaded and put the kext files in the extensions directory and did chown and chmod then deleted Extensions.mkext and tried to delete Extensions.kextcache but that file doesn't exist. When I reboot it says that it cannot use the kext files I installed because they were installed improperly. What am I doing wrong.

As for the wireless I have the IBM wireless card not the intel but cannot get it to work. I tried following the instructions in the sticky at the top of this page but no luck there either it just bricked the install.

I think if you would tell us the type of video card and type of wireless card you have, that would help since different T60p might have different cards that run at several possible resolutions =)

My bad the video card is the ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 and the wireless is the IBM a/b/g mini pci adapter

Look at the sticky and several very detailed how-two' posts, both video and wi-fi cards are very easy to get to work by modifying two kexts. You need to manually ensure hardware IDs in your kexts match the type of hardware you have.

There is no point for me to retype that has been said on the forum many-many times already. Do some reading and you'll get both things to work.

I wouldn't have posted if the sticky helped me out. I followed the instructions to the T and it still does not work.

Unfortunately, all the FAQ's and how-to's that I've seen are rather outdated. They work fine with 10.4.8, but things have changed with 10.5.2. The file layout has changed a bit, and instructions to look for certain Info.plist strings, etc. no longer work.

Hi,

Here are my kexts that work fine with 10.5.2 on my T60p (even dual display works if you set the BIOS right)

http://rapidshare.com/files/105314204/F ... 0.zip.html

Let me know how these work out for you!

I assume you know how to install these, otherwise just search for "kext helper b7" and use that to install them.

Thanks, finetuned! I've been slowly working my way through other how-to's that are newer, and I'll definitely give yours a try and provide some feedback.

I had 10.4.8 on the same laptop, and I recall it was much easier to get QE and CI support. :(

I guess this is your lucky day, because here's my kext that makes the Wireless work, too!

Have fun with it!

Oh, and btw: I forgot to mention that those kexts for the FireGL work with the Leopard Graphics Update (LGU), I don't know how well they work without them. Also, they are configured for my display (the 15,4" widescreen 1680x1050 screen), it will need reconfiguring for a different screen.

Good luck!

I saw in your response to Carters2 the IO80211Family.kext and I d/l'd it, but no workie. Not sure how to ts this; I tried looking through dmesg, but don't see anything attempting or failing this. In System Profiler I don't see anything under Firewire. I can turn on/off Bluetooth via the switch (front left of TP) and BT reacts accordingly. I also have Ethernet (although occasionally I have to unplug/plug my cable to make it detect the connection).

I do see one error in dmesg; Duplicate class 15AppleACPIPS2Nub in org.tgwbd.driver.ACPIPS2Nub & com.apple.driver.Apple.ACPIPlatform Failed to load extension org.tgwbd.driver.ACPIPs2Nub

Any suggestion on where I could find clues to this? Wireless was working under XP, but not sure if I've misconfigured in BIOS. Is there a Log, CLU, App I can use to query this hardware or see why the OS isn't loading the driver?

Hello All,

I have installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on T60p. (2007xxx series). Audio, Ethernet is working OOB. Graphics is working with 1024x768 resolution.

I have ATI v5200 Graphics card.

I tried the following steps (These kext's were taken from Default Kalyway installation & not from FIREGL V5250 zip file)

1. Added boot mode & resolution (1600x1200x32) in info.apple.boot.plist (Boot Graphics & Graphics Mode).

2. Modified Vendor Id in ATIReadeonX1000 Info.plist (71C5->71C4).

Still it is not working. System is continuosly rebooting.

If I give "-s" @ boot, then prompt is not coming.

I have downloaded the files given in this thread (FIREGL V5250).

Does these kext's work for V5200? Do I need to change anything in the kext (Vendor/Device Id)?

Also can I install these extensions (FIREGL v5250) directly using kext helper b7?

Thanks a lot
Sandy

I am a little confused that nobody gives its wireless chip a name :?:
The Atheros based chips work out of the box while the people who try to write an Intel based driver are still trying (and doing some great work!!!) to get through their error logs.
Make sure you know who actually made your wireless chip, ibm made none, they only labeled them.

hi finetuned:

I tried your package and some other package on my T60p 2007-93J. There is a weird thing:
1) I got my a dual display which means both internal LCD and external flat panel works simultaneously.
2) BUT, if I reboot or click "Detect Displays" after unpluging the external FP, my internal LCD would not work.
3) AND the weirdest thing is internal LCD even works if I plug the cable without the FP(one side on laptop and one side on nothing).

Can you tell me what is your package version and where they came from? Do you know how can I make internal LCD works? Any advice will be appreciated!

Some details:
1) ATIinject info.plist -> I added LVDS,EDID for internal and CRT2,EDID for external. I tried use LDVS,EDID only, no changes.
2) ioreg shows external FP is connected even I just plug the cable w/o the FP.
3) video card -> ATI FireGL v5200 -> Mobility x1600
4) When I plug the external, QE/CI, res changing, everything works fine.
5) It worked OK on 10.4.9 and 10.5.1

Hello, this my first time on the forum. I am quite well with computing, but not with OSX. When you talk about the driver installing process I absolutely have no clue how it works. I would need some kind of step-by-step kext install thing.

Maybe you can give me such description or an howto link or so.
If I hear chmod / pling I donnot understand a word.

I have a T60 20075DG with 1,83 Mhz and ATI GL5200. The rest I thing is similar to its descrition below:

Hi finetuned,

Will my ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 (on my T60) work with these kext?
I have had no luck with res change and dual display, and am having mouse tearing all the time
Thanks!
