Is my ultrabay bad? (10.5.2 and Ultrabay)

#1 Post by FONMaster » Wed Apr 23, 2008 7:17 pm

I'm looking for someone who uses a SATA Ultrabay (for 2nd HDD) with 10.5.2. I have set my machine up with that configuration, and now when I use the drive (at some point) it'll hang with a steady blue light. The only fix is to power off the machine and restart. This is bad, because my iTunes & iPhoto databases are both housed on that drive, as are my virtual machines.

As a troubleshooting measure, I moved the drive to a USB->SATA interface, and haven't seen the trouble. This, of course, makes me think that my ultrabay housing might be bad. Before I go out and spend the $50 to get a new one, I'm hopeful that I can find someone who has this configuration working and hits it rather hard so that I know it's not an issue with support in 10.5.2. (I'm having a hard time thinking that it is, since an almost identical IDE configuration works just fine.)

A confirmation of your working 10.5.2 SATA Ultrabay configuration would be appreciated.

What kind of machine do you have?

Make sure you have the right ATA bus and chipset drivers; I have had a similar problem before with my optical drive.

BTW this is an auxiliary drive you're talking about, right? Not your main boot drive?
