Hi, I've been doing plenty of research on the best OS X build and it seems like varying degrees of success. Anyone out there get a build that at a minimum has Wifi and Video? Looks like 10.4 is more fruitful, but I'd appreciate any comments if someone has done something recent with Leo4all. Thanks!

No answer to this topic :( Have the same pain (OS X on x40) and I try to avoid to open up another topic. Is there anybody who is able to guide?

You guys might want to read my post here (post 3):

Might be helpful, although I can't create a 'howto' guide for a X40...

I'm trying to install iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 on an X40 - so far no success. Anyone know what I should check in the 'Customize' options?

I am going to give it a try with whichever discs I have lieing around. I had a completely successful install with the R61 I had, but I am most concerned about the video drivers and how they will perform. I recall there was a patch around the scene that supposedly worked for the 855GM integrated chipset, but I never really saw how well that worked. Anybody want to mention in detail what is holding them up with iPC`s Leopard install?

Edit: Tried iAtkos (10.5.1)- Ended up with a blinking cursor, followed by the same error as below:
Kalyway 10.5.1 - "Waiting for Root Device" error
iPC 10.5.6 - "Waiting for Root Device" error

Not really sure on where to go from here-- but I think I may try the Windows 7 beta. If somebody posts up some instructions on how to get into the OS, I'll follow up... but at this point I'm not that concerned. Best of luck!

Hello,

I have I believe a as good as possible working MacOSX Leopard install on X40 after trying a dozen different distributions, I have done a page on it at http://www.newtale.com/pp/article475.html but it is still in beta and moreover it is still in french

However I had to change the wifi card for a broadcom one, the original intel one could work with some drivers but not with the encrypted networks ( My X40 is modded see http://www.newtale.com/pp/article480.html ).

In the end:
- wifi works
- compact flash SSD works
- all video files including avi, mkv works
- speedstep works
- sound works
- USB works
- Ethernet (cable) works
- DVD rom works
- bluetooth works
- trackpoint works
- french PC keyboard works (including <> key)
- PC card works

BUT

- frontrow, VLC, Warcraft III and other apps using Open GL or advanced graphics don't work (because of 855GM chipset: no Open GL, no Quartz and no the 10.4.1/10.4.2/10.4.3 855GM drivers don't work under more recent Tiger or Leopard)
- sleep don't work (well it works but the LCD doesn't turn off)
- hibernation don't work
- SD card don't work

It was very stable with optimal install (8 months without problem or reinstall)

The easiest install is with iPC 10.5.6 but the optimal install is with iAktos 1.0ir2 and is pretty difficult as it needs packages from other distributions and tweaks (and it boots with blinking cursor, my page explains how to get around it).

Best Regards,

P.S.: I'll translate in english as soon as I have finished the french page
