T60p 8743 1680x1050 still some minor issues

#1 Post by dcipher » Wed Sep 24, 2008 6:51 am

I installed OS X 10.5.4 using iDeneb 1.1 on my T60p. I am using the 9.4.0 Kernel. After the clean install, I had the following issues:

1. Video not able to get to 1680x1050
2. No power management. No battery meter or option to show it.
3. Sleep broken
4. No wifi
5. RAM shows up as 0Mhz in system info

I then downloaded the extensions from this post:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=67386

I rm -rf'd my extensions, cp -R'd these extensions, fixed permissions, etc. and rebooted.

Now video works great, sleep works perfectly, wifi is perfect. But still, no power management and RAM still shows up as 0Mhz.

I then downloaded the AppleSMBIOS-667, and installed that, rebooted and RAM shows up as 667 as expected, everything still works but still no power management.

So, here are my minor problems:
1. I can boot from battery and the display is at full brightness. If i lower the brightness using the hardware keys, about 1/2 the screen goes dark and i can barely read anything. I need to either reboot, or hook up to AC power to get my screen to come back (turning up the brightness while on battery power doesn't do much)

2. (External vga port works, but my LCD flickers quite a bit at its native resolution (1280x1024 @75hz). This doesn't happen on my XP build.) <--- Ahhh... it's my monitor. I just put a different LCD panel on and it's rock solid.

I need to boot with the monitor attached to make it work. If i attach it after the system has booted, it gets recognized but never turns on.

3. Docking station DVI output does not work. Since the thinkpad shuts off the vga port when you dock, can't use dual monitor while docked.

4. No power management control. Doesn't recognize the system as having batteries. I have even tried the extensions from this post:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=67130
And followed those instructions for power management. All that happened was my sound stopped working and I had to reinstall the kext for sound.

So, on the whole, the machine works quite well when plugged in and stand-alone. But it doesn't work too well as a mobile laptop, which is really too bad. Good news is, I have a Eee pc 1000h that DOES work great as a netbook with OS X ;)

If anyone has any advice to offer, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Just as a follow-up... I now have the 9.2 sleep kernel installed, but still have the same problems... I have also found one more issue:

If I turn on "clicking" from the trackpad in the system prefs, my trackpoint stops working. If I reboot, it comes back, but my sound doesn't work! It doesn't matter if I shut off the clicking or not at that point - things stay broken. I then replace my extensions, reboot, and everything goes back to normal.

I have to say, the thinkpad makes a great OS X machine, but it's not quite perfect (although it's quite usable and still better than XP or vista!)
