R60 in need of Wireless

#1 Post by teladoy » Tue Jan 06, 2009 11:26 am

I have install successfully double boot Kalyway 10.5.2 and XP on my Lenovo R60.
So far everything seen OK (I am a mac user for last 9 years from 8.5 to 10.5.5.
I have internet via ethernet so I am using this notebook as a desktop with Mac and laptop wit Windows that give 6 hours of battery compare to 3.5 with Mac. All work out of the box so I am happy (very, can afford mac anymore) Thanks Kaly.
My question is in regard to Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG network connection, I am aware than so far is not solution, so unless you have one not need to inform me (save you to have to type extra) I read forums all the time. But can see to find a work around situation either using a PC/PC Express Card or a USB Adaptor or any unknown by me hardware If is possible please let me know.

Thanks

hi, i had the same problem as you, you can buy a compatible USB wireless adaptor like the ASUS one ($25) OR you can buy an atheros based mini-pci wireless card and swap out the one you have, this is what i did, i think it was about $30 from ebay.

Minhi Thank you for responding me. I have been very busy so no time for forums or answer I apologize. I went ahead and order a atheros card IC: 4104A-ARBXB63L suppose to support Wi-FI also let see if it works Thank you again Bye

Hi all!
I have your same problem, and from my searches through forums and blogs I got to the point that you need to flash your bios to get rid of the hw blacklist, that otherwise will get you the famous "error 1802".You find more information in the T6X section, where Zender has done a great job modding the bios for many thinkpads.
Instead, if you know that Atheros chipset is natively accepted from R60's bios, please let me know, 'cause I don't feel comfortable flashin the bios, even if the procedure is riskless.
Thanks in advance,
G

g..
before getting post from minhi I search around and found from other sources the same answer but minhi is the only R60 owner so instead of flusing I goint to install the atheros
I have remove ebay address because card is no good for OS X That is my GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

I also read this morning that one T61 user have no problem reconizing the card.

good luck
