iPC 10.5.6 + T60p (8744-J2U), ATI v5250 video
Hi, this post is directed towards those who are using the iPC distro 10.5.6 Final with the T60p(8744-J2U), FireGL v5250 ati video 1680x1050 (device id 0x71d4). I have gotten a very usable system so far but setting up the ati video has been another story(I still don't have QE or CI), here's how it goes...
for the iPC installation:
- didn't select any video drivers
- ethernet: Intel Pro 100/VE
- sound: AD1981
- PS2 Mouse Fix (since i have a mouse plugged in, but i think you need at least one of these fixes selected to get your keyboard working)
- PowerManagement (sleep doesn't work but screen turns off and on fine)
The best I could get with the video is the native resolution 1680x1050(great) but with no QE/CI, I did this by installing 'ATIinject.kext' from a pack by finetuned(search the forum for his post), that kext I assume is from an older OsX version but its the only thing that has given me the screen's native 1680x1050.
If you have this machine and have the video humming i'd like to hear about it please and thank you!

Re: iPC 10.5.6 + T60p (8744-J2U), ATI v5250 video
For anyone interested, the solution for the ati v5250 video was a pack from finetuned for 10.5.6 and the 'ATIinject.kext'(which isn't included in the 10.5.6 pack) from another one his packs, presumably from a different(older) version of osX but no matter because it all seems to work fine, 1680x1050 QE/CI fully supported.
I've gone ahead and put the necessary files all in one pack to simplify things but credit for this goes to finetuned...
Install these with kext helper b7

Re: iPC 10.5.6 + T60p (8744-J2U), ATI v5250 video
have you tested the beta 3495 driver yet for your t60p? I have an identical system with a slower processor. Really interested in getting wifi working if it is possible. Also did you use any chipset driver?
this worked great for me thank you. I tried kalyway 10.5.2 and had no luck. this was really simple.
**Update:
tried the beta 3945 driver and it doesnt work for me. I'm downloading the kext's from upgarde to see if it will work for me and I still need to double check my product ID after the download is complete. I still didnt test a chipset driver.
My T60p is really hot. I'm assuming I need the speedstep which is included in part of one of the downloads I'm grabbing. Here is my install for those who need a bit more details:
Started: 11:15
Download and burn the ISO for iPC 10.5.6
Boot up with cd.
Wait for cd to load. Takes about 3-7mins
Select language click next
Disk Utility Before Installation to format disk.
-Click the main drive - not partition
-Click partition: 1 part, title name, optios-guid. Apply-partition- when finished close disk utility.
Quit Disk Utility and Continue Installation.
Agree to Terms.
Select HDD then continue.
Don't click install- customize first
T60p settings:
iPC main
No kernals
No Lang personal preference
Ad1981 - sound didnt work for me
Ethernet - Intel ethernet
WiFi =Beta3495 - did not work for me
Power - bottom 3 - no battery meter, first install did entire group.
Ps2 key fix
Apps: efi osx86 msr mkext
Install
Alt q quits reg after selecting location
40 mins plus writing shorthand tutorial on iPod touch.
Got time machine up by running efistudio tool:
Select Device: Ethernet
Click add device
Then write to plist
Reboot
Will update when i get the downloads setup.

Re: iPC 10.5.6 + T60p (8744-J2U), ATI v5250 video
Is there anything I can do to get my wifi working? I've tried to add the 802 family kext file and even rebooted with -f. I have 2 devices under network and one of them matches my mac address from my wifi card. So i'm assuming its here but I dont have a wifi light, only bluetooth.
heres the info from system profiler:
Type: Ethernet
BSD Device Name: en1
Hardware (MAC) Address: 00:19:d2:9f:7b:a0
IPv4:
Configuration Method: DHCP
IPv6:
Configuration Method: Automatic
AppleTalk:
Configuration Method: Node
Node: Node
Proxies:
Exceptions List: *.local, 169.254/16
FTP Passive Mode: Yes
Also I get alot of kernal panic's when mounting volumes. such as downloading firefox, and darwin's 3945 wifi driver. Didnt happen in the beginning but every disk i mount crashes the system.

I downloaded and installed these kexts on my fresh 10.5.6 install (T60p 8743-cto)bucky wrote:For anyone interested, the solution for the ati v5250 video was a pack from finetuned for 10.5.6 and the 'ATIinject.kext'(which isn't included in the 10.5.6 pack) from another one his packs, presumably from a different(older) version of osX but no matter because it all seems to work fine, 1680x1050 QE/CI fully supported.

They work fine - however i'm stuck at 1024x768 with no option for 1680x1050 (the native resolution of the lcd). Anyone know how to add a new resolution?
Thanks
I just modifed com.apple.Boot.plist and added a kernel flag for 1680x1050x32... i'm close - it's now able to get to 1400x1050x32... Also, i get some artifacts on the screen once in awhile. Very strange. (i had this all working with 10.5.4)
EDIT: OK - i have it working. The package I downloaded did not have ATIinject or ATIDRV. I grabbed these from fintune's older post and installed them and now i'm at 1680x1050x32 with no mouse tearing with QI/QE etc.... all is good
