Hi Guys,
I'm planning to install IPC10.5.6 on my T41. Is this distribution ok for the T41 or shall I try with another distribution. Any advice or tips on how to install it are welcome.
Thanks for your help in advance

Well, I downloaded and burned the distro you asked about and it boots and runs the installer. It's installing the OS right now.
We'll see if I can actually get it to boot up after install.

Yesterday, I installed OS-X on my laptop. After the installation was finished, I couldn't boot osX, I had an error Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist’ missing. I think it's something to do with the wrong partition being active. So I'll try to reinstall it tonight.
And you was it ok?

Sort of. I guess I got a little bit further. It will boot up to the loading screen, but then switches to a blank screen with a blue background and stops loading. I tried that a couple of times, but I guess I missed something in the customization options.

Hi mate,
How is your installation going? I managed to get a black screen with mac framework successfully initialized. But it freezes after.

Not as good as I would've hoped.
OSX installed successfully. The problem is now when I try to boot up the OS. I get the usual grey screen with the Apple logo while things are loading for a while, but then it switches to a black screen and hangs. No HDD activity, nothing. Each time I reboot to try again, the same thing happens.
I figure that I'm probably missing a driver, or picked the wrong one for some part of the system, but once it hangs I can't get back to the console to check for any error messages.

Where does the mac framework screen show up? Is that installation or boot up?

So I see we are at the same point. The screen I mentioned is when I go in verbose mode at the boot, to see details. To do that press F8, ang type -v in the options (you can also try -s = single user -f make driver list again -x safe mode).
It might help. I'm currently downloading the distribution from another site to try again. I guess we'll end up buying a mac mini.

I have a T42, which is pretty similar (but i only had 512Mb memory). It has a 32Mb ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphics adaptor (which limits it quite a bit).

I installed Kalyway 10.5.1 very easily (Leopard ,using EFI option). just about everything (hardware wise) worked straight away excet wifi, with no problems except video playback. I the updated to Kalyway10.5.2 using an update file ( and a new kernel)

The only problem i had was that it take a LONG time to install Kalyway 10.5.1, i gave up several times thinking it had failed. it was only when i left it installing & went to the pub for 3hrs or so I came home to find it had installed perfectly.

I couldnt play DVD's or many types of video though. When I looked into it, it seemed that I wouldnt get Quartz Extreme (QE) working in Leopard. Which I thought i needed for reasonable video playback quality (now im not so sure).

So I tried XxX 10.4.11 (Tiger), thinking it would probably run better on my T42. I had a lot more trouble installing it that Kalyway, but that was really down to kernel & options selection. I installed it in a basic form (to 10.4.8 i think -no efi), and then used updates to get it to 10.4.11 (much trial & error) with QE enabled.

I have left it like that. It boots & runs very fast, stable. Looking back I preferred Leopard, but wanted reliable video & DVD playback, so i switched to Tiger -which works much better with my Video Adaptor.

hope this is of some help to you... good luck guys
