10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA3100)
Re: 10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA3100)
Hello all,
First of all, thanks for beginning such a nice project.
It really is educational.
I have one question though:
I have a ThinkPad T60 (Core2Duo & GMA 950)
Installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard using the guide on the first post.
First of all, I used the Extra folder in the latest package of MacPnt and used the files from the folder named X60 (Core2Duo, GMA950)
I upgraded to 10.6.8 and it was working really slow.
It was the wifi so, i fixed it with a kext Something.bundle from 10.6.7 into /System/Library/SystemConfiguration.
Now it is working just fine except the kernel_task 100% cpu problem and takes a whole core.
I just don't understand it anymore.
I don't have any USB devices attached, did a safe boot because it could be a 3rd party software but it wasn't.
I really am desperate and I don't sleep well because of this.
Can you guys help me out?
Why is one of my cores taken by kernel_task?
I thank you and appriciate any answer.
MacInDos
PS: sorry for my englishm this project gave me a real headache and sleepless nights lol. (I don't regret it though )

It's embarrassing to still not have had success by now. Has anyone here specifically done an install to a T61 (with Intel graphics) that could add a tutorial to this thread, or start another? I would assume someone has done so on that model, but I have yet to read a step-by-step about it.

Re: 10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA3100)
Hi all,
I was given a Thinkpad T60 a few years ago as a gift, and I use it when travelling for things like Email, Facebook etc. However, I have been finding that it was running inefficiently. At the same time, I was able to purchase Snow Leopard very cheaply, so I decided to try install on the laptop. I figured that Mac OS might be more efficient for my usages on a laptop (Most demanding think I do when travelling is Youtube).
So I installed and updated using the Combo update to 10.6.8. Of course, the GPU (GMA950) did not work well initially. However due to this thread, I was able to setup everything perfectly (except the WIFI chip, but I use a USB chip that works).
Oh, when I tried the software initially, it did not work. What made everything work perfectly was reinstalling the combo update, and then installing the fix here.
Anyway, thanks all for helping me setup this laptop as I need.

Re: 10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA3100)
Hello all, I know this is a pretty old thread, but I was wondering if anyone has had issues with Inkwell (Ink) lagging and functioning rather slowly?
On my x61t everything except speedstepping, the reported processor speed in coolbookcontroller, and ability to change the speedstepping settings.
I was thinking that speedstepping may have something to do with inks slow operation, however I'm unsure as, strangely, ink functions properly while Apple DVD player is running, but only then, so it could be related to the graphics driver, which seems to function properly with apparent support for QE/CI.
Either way, I've been unable to solve the problem, and have scoured duckduckgo and google for a solution.
If anyone has had a similar problem or knows how to fix this issue I'd be grateful for any assistance, a tablet without functioning handwriting recognition is rather rough at times.

Re: 10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA3100)
This thread is a wealth of info, but it kind of seems to have died (understandably)
Recently acquired an x61 Tablet sxga from the marketplace. Trying to install 10.6.8 and running into many headaches. It seems like most info takes you up to 10.6.7. Unfortunately, a lot of software and all the security updates require 10.6.8. I get that most people have moved on to 10.7 or even 10.8, but I need Rosetta.
Anyone have a link to a current guide that successfully implements 10.6.8 on the x61 series?

I Don't Have a DVD Drive
Hello, new to the board. I just got an X60 CoreDuo Tablet, and I am trying to follow the guide. I don't have an optical drive on my machine. And I don't have a Mac to prepare media.
I did use TransMac to "restore the 10.6 retail dmg to a usb drive." So I have a thumb drive with 10.6 retail on it. But iboot only recognizes optical install discs.
So after I boot from iboot, and insert my thumb drive with osx on it, iboot does not recognize the usb drive.
Do I have any options?

If iboot only recognizes optical disk, you can do as I did (on this thread):
The install DVD was scratched or something else and I ended using image file which I was able to write to HFS+ partitioned hard disk with Ubuntu. Chimera as a boot loader can read the dmg (or was it ISO package, I'm not totally sure) and is able to use that as an install media.

How did you go about crating the partition, and how did you put the dmg/iso onto a partition...
If you got help on a forum, just link me to your threads; PLEASE!
I so want to get OSX going on my thinkpad!
Re: 10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA3100)
Thanks!
I was able to follow the guide and use the current (2011 02 15) MacPNT .zip archive to install Mac OS X 10.6 (currently stopped after 3) First Boot, and about to go on to 4) Update 10.6.X, using the 10.6.7 combo updater) on my ThinkPad X61 Tablet (7762) w/ 2GB RAM onto a new 32GB Crucial SSD using the 1.25 BIOS.
I did get a kernel panic (diagnosed it using the -v boot option) which I was able to address using the technique described here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/ ... family250/ --- apparently I'd configured my BIOS in such a way that it activated the bug?
Just finished reading through the entire thread and was quite surprised to find about the wiki towards the end: http://osxonthinkpads.wikidot.com/10-6- ... 50-gma3100
Going to read through that next, before continuing with the install process.
If anyone ever needs any custom typesetting or TeX/LaTeX or CNC work done --- let me know. I owe you all big time for making it possible for me to finally have a ThinkPad running OPENSTEP (failed miserably the last time I tried this, on a ThinkPad 755C and OPENSTEP 4.2) --- once I get my machine updated and configured and fitted out w/ the battery and stylus I've ordered (and eventually I'll upgrade RAM to 4 or 8GB), and if I can re-work the ThinkPad X6 Ultrabase to be part of my desk and fit the Tablet (ordered a Tablet Ultrabase, but was sent the regular one....) I'll have the machine I've always dreamed about.

The 10.6.7 update went fine.
Unfortunately, trying to install Tablet Magic didn't work out --- wound up w/ a dark screen after booting which even reinstalling wouldn't resolve.
Wiping the hard drive and reinstalling for the 3rd time was the charm though, so the machine is running again --- what else do I need to know about getting the stylus up and running? Was there a post which I missed?

Re: 10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA3100)
This is a bit bizarre.
When I installed, I didn't have a normal battery, so did the install with only an extended battery in place --- I've since acquired a battery and the system kernel panics when I boot:
- with the battery in place
- with no batteries attached
it boots up okay with both batteries, or just the one and it sees two batteries when they're both attached.
Could it be that the battery is a clone w/o electronics?
Is there an easy way to reverse this situation?

Re: 10.6.X on X60/T60/X61 (CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950, GMA31
I believe that the problem is that there's a dichotomy of WACF004 and WACF008 --- and that it can be set in multiple places in multiple ways and that one place, the DSDT can potentially confuse things.
Another concern --- there's an option in the BIOS to turn on a serial port --- what does that refer to? Is there one on the docking station?
I really wish there was a way to archive an installation when testing --- I had a pretty much working system once and managed to kill it, so am starting over, again, for the fifth time.
Does anyone have a straight-forward, step-by-step set of instructions, w/ commentary for getting the stylus to function?

Changing to 008 doesn't seem to 've helped --- I can see the serial port, load the daemon, query the tablet for get info in the pref pane --- it just doesn't respond to the stylus.
What else can I try?

I've had all sorts of trouble getting Snow Leopard installed on my X61s but have finally succeeded with the help of this forum post plus some creative work-arounds (to get past boot0: error and boot1: error). Now, I'm trying to do step 4 .. but don't have networking working (my lights are lighting up on the port) and don't have the trackpoint mouse (I'm using USB mouse for now).
Any ideas on what I should try next to get the networking going? I followed all of the steps but am too new at Hackintoshing to know where to go next.
Thanks .. Bob

good morning everybody
I have a "getting old" x60s with 3Gb RAM & 128Gb SSD
I successfully installed my version of OS X 10.6 and upgraded to 10.6.8 without any big surprise
It works well, I have to say (I am not really a pro mac)
