Unfortunately I was wrong the second time. The 10.6.7 update kills C-States and my processor is 10-12 degree hotter
But I managed to fix it (thanks to Time Machine). I replaced the following kexts inside System.kext (PlugIns):
AppleNMI.kext
ApplePlatformFamily.kext
BSDKernel.kext
BSDKernel6.0.kext

and cleared the cache. (If I replace only one of these the C-States don't work either, I had to replace all of them). Maybe it's my config, maybe it's Core2Duo. If someone is experiencing the same I can upload these kexts (taken from the previous Mac OSX)

Do you measure your processor's temperature? I'm using iStat menus, modified by Silencer and DSDT patch for controlling and measuring fan speed. After the update the temperature doesn't go below 71 degree (Celsius) - the CPU heatsink temperature. After bringing back the kexts it's around 59-62 (as it was with 10.6.6). Can you also try running "ioreg -lw0 | grep CSTInfo" in terminal - does it say anything?

Hi. IOreg gave me "CSTInfo" = 19136773

Which means my x61s has Cstates. But what i m wondering is that how often our X61 resides C3 or C4 states. The temp has not changed dramatically like yours. I undervolt the cpu with coolbook so it runs below 56 if no heavy duty.
I will report back if i found anything. I checked ur CST section in DSDT, it recalls C1M3. I m not 100% sure if C1M3 should be the only method to return.

What tweaks to apply in what order?

I used the Sebinouse's guide (using my customized DSDT and some kexts, which Sebinouse now includes in his package).

But the first and the hardest step - was replacing the internal Intel's Wi-Fi with supported Dell 1394. I had to modify it physically - opening tablet, getting out the WiFi card taping out the 20th pin - because my BIOS didn't like this idea. There are a lot of guides on replacing the card with the supported by MacOS. Or you can use an external USB WiFi adapter. After that step all went smooth and clean.

1) Installed from retail DVD (any Mac OS version will go, the newer the better - I don't recommend 10.6.0, it has the outdated SATA drivers which can cause kernel panic on start)

2) Rebooted from DVD and replaced all /S/L/E files etc., fixed boot sectors, applied patches....

Nice! I am looking at ordering/ getting an Atheros card that works. Besides the wireless issues.. will the rest work for me? I might not get the card for a few weeks. Will popping it in later on be okay?

4*) I also created a prefPane panel for remapping the tablet and other non-standard keys. It works perfectly on my 7767 hardware, but there are reports, that it doesn't work for other hardware. It may work for you, if not, hopefully I will fix it soon

Then I wanted a dual boot with Windows 7, but it's another story, not quite straight... Though I don't remember the last time I booted into my Windows partition. Mac OS X is very stable and much more faster, convenient and reliable.
I need a dual boot with Win764. Question.. which should be installed first.. Mac OS Snow Leopard or Win7x64.. due to the partitioning and formatting issues?

I am going to start with 100GB Drive for starters on my X61T. What would you recommend as the Partition sizes & Partitions in which order? for..
- Mac OS SL + apps

Yep, mine gives me the same value. I'm not sure what was wrong - I replaced the kexts back to the 10.6.7 natives and rebuild cache. And now it all seems to work fine.
And in my DSDT I have the same C-States activated - C1M3. Seems it somehow fixed itself.......

My way: Install Mac OS fully, Install Windows on a second partition (it will kill Mac bootloader), reboot to Mac installation DVD and install bootloader again, make Mac partition active with diskpart, Reboot to Windows installation DVD, use repair (but not from pop-up dialog), reboot again to WIndows partition, choose "repair and restart", do this again (reboot, then repair and restart), make Mac partition active with diskpart, reboot - you must be able to choose which partition you want to boot to and it should work ok. Sorry - I don't remember anything more. It wasn't a clear process and that's all I can say about it.

I have allocated (GUID partition) 123 GB to Mac (Mac Journaled) and 20 to Windows (MS-DOS FAT).

I tried with your special key package, However it does not work with my X61s. But it does detect my ACPI keyboard input when i press a key. So remapping probably needed but i do not know how to link those key combinations to function. Did u modify the source of VoodooPS2?

Yes, of course you have to use the modified version of VoodooPS2Keyboard. You have to copy VoodooPS2Controller.kext (from SpecialKeys archive) replacing your old one. Or you can copy VoodooPS2Keyboard.kext from inside VoodooPS2Controller to your own VoodooPS2Controller, replacing the old files

I do have the X61T Ultrabase with DVD so thats not an issue. What I meant was that the Mac / EFI Snow Leopard Retail DVDs do not boot on Non-Mac machines without some kind of Booter / Boot Loader thingy? I thought SL Retail DVDs dont boot on PCs without DSDT / AML /EFI etc?

So when you say you used an external DVD with DVD-RW ... with all tools on it..
- Did you burn a Retail version on a Dual-Layer DVD-RW (Single layer cant hold SL Retail) and / or added Additional Tools on to the same DVD / other DVD/CD/ Storage?

It probably won't work on anything except my system - as it does much more than rotation. I wrote it for myself as a companion for TabletMagic and my own software. So use SwitchResX, I bought it and been using it myself for a long time, it's reliable. And author is very responsible - I did a long conversation with him and he incorporated my wishes in to the latest version of his prog. All I wanted to say that rotation works on X61t.

Has any one gotten a T60 with ATI Mobility X1300 to work with QE/CI? The install from the MacPNT package went great, I'm just trying to get this last part to work (trying Natit, RadeonHD, various other kext modifications). What parts of the DSDT will I need to change if I'm on an X1300 (since there are GMA950 patches applied)?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It seems the rotation depends on native Mac OS X drivers. I checked and I wasn't able to rotate my X61t on 90 degrees using standard Mac OS X's functions - only 180. So it seems to me someone has to hack Framebuffer kext.

first off, thanks for all the help you've been offering to run mac os on thinkpad x6x.
I followed the instructions in the first post to install Snow Leopard on my x61t.
I also updated the operating system to 10.6.7, and pretty much everything works
(I will have to change the intel wireless card, but that's another problem).

Now I've been trying to get the tablet/digitiser working. I made sure the
TabletEnabler kext was indeed present in my /Extra/Extension folder. I then
installed TabletMagic (the latest version I could find). Now, running TabletMagic
preference pane without rebooting, it seems it can find a tablet on a port, but if
I enable it (ticking the Enabled checkbox in the upper right), and go to the Testing
tab, no data is transmitted it seems. If I go to the tabletPC tab, and choose 'Enable digitizer',
it will reboot the machine, and after reboot TabletMagic doesn't see any tablet (status
is 'No tablet found').

I googled a bit here and there and could not find any obvious mistake I may have made,
so I'd appreciate it if you could give any advice or guidance to get the tablet part
working.

Yes, Screen Rotation, I mean 90 and 270 degree. 180 degree seems not that useful to me.

Windows 7 make it working perfectly, -- that's the reason I hope my Snow Leopard can do the same on it so that I can put Windows 7 away from my x61T.

You are right, I guess this is pretty hard to decode and understand native MAC OS X drivers. it is the same story that people try to get intel GMA4500 working with QE/CI from modifying native Mac OSX X3100 driver. so far no success.

Just a quick followup if someone encounters the same issues as I did, it seems to work now.

In the TabletPC pane, I suspect the 'Enable' button (which will modify the system and initiate
a reboot) changes the Apple16x50serial.kext, setting the proper string WACF004. It is
my understanding this is necessary only for 10.5, not for Snow Leopard.

I think my problem was that the serial port was not really properly seen: the listbox
contained just 'Automatic', 'Modem' and a 3rd entry, but nothing like 'Serial0'. What
was very strange was that just after installing TabletMagic, it would still properly identify
the tablet but that was all, i.e. the stylus did not have any effect.

The solution was simple though, just run again pfix, and, voila, upon reboot 'Serial0'
appeared in the TabletMagic ports listbox, and everything was fine.

Want to say thanks to ur guide. I've successfully installed (5 times already) MacOS 10.6.7, and everything seems to work now, except for:

- sleep won't work - my laptop goes to sleep, but never wakes up (black screen, blinking sleep light and i have to power off). I havent find any solution for this issue atm.
- the temperature of "Heatsink A" (in iStat) is about 70 degrees, and laptop is very hot. Im using DSDT, and kexts from ur posts (kexts from this thread, and dsdt from "Controlling fan under OSX..."). Ive used different kexts/dsdt, but temperature is always around 70 degrees (65 sometimes). The CPU A/B temperature is about 52-57 degrees. I dont really think that this temperatures is normal

My laptop is T60 (1953-e4u): coreDuo 1.8, 2 gb, gma950, hacked bios and swapped wifi card (bcm4311)
E: yours dsdt, boot.plist and smbios.plist

Thanks for your answers, Sebinouse, and sorry for the delay: The update from Mac OS X 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 went completely wrong on my ThinkPad and I was temporarily stuck with a corrupted FileVault user account preventing me from logging into my machine. Unfortunately it really took me some time to fix this (fortunately successfully).

Anyway ... now the current situation: Following your advice, I've changed my config to Chameleon RC5 + a modified SMBios.plist and I now get exactly the same values for BusClock and SMB that you've predicted here.

The overheating problem still occurs from time to time though, and I am starting to think that it might be related to two new hardware components I built into my ThinkPad X60 Tablet in exchange for the standard ones during the time when I changed to your new DSDT package including the Fan control:

• The ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini Express Adapter, part. no. 42T0825, which already supports the 802.11 n standard, replacing the ThinkPad's default Intel 3945abg.
• A Western Digital WD7500BPVT 750 GB replacing my former Samsung M6 HM320JI 320 GB.

Could one of them be the "heater" which lets my ThinkPad run significantly hotter?

As I remember (if I am wrong, please correct me), 1) Chameleon RC5 + modified smbios.plist , just makes some cosmetic correction in Profiler. does not make the machine running with the requested speed (Frequency).

I don't have any insight if this is true or not: Updating my ThinkPad's Snow Leopard installation to Chameleon RC5 + a modified SMBios.plist did change the displayed values, but the overheating problem remained the same more or less (see my post above). Which at least does not contradict your theory ...

We might experience the same problem, although I don't have temperature problems

Do you experience the kernel panics also with speedstep disabled in BIOS or with bootparam "cpus=1"?

I haven't tried yet, but I hope to have some time for this the up-coming week.

As I also changed hardware components in-between, I can't say for sure that the problem is related to a specific of Sebinouse's "/Extra-packages".

I get the strange FSB/busclock values as you do! The suggested fix using chameleon rc5 and a modified smbios.plist didn't work for me. Still hangups and completely wrong FSB.

Chameleon RC5 + a modified SMBios.plist (filename cAsE-senSiTiVe according to earlier posts! ) at least did change the displayed values on my machine; I still have to determine if these changes are more than just 'cosmetic'.

You can download -- kext utility to rebuild your snow leopard kexts cache, it will also show you the base frequency, FSB frequency. "base frequency = 200Mhz FSB =800Mhz" are the correct values.

SMBios.plist only change the values cosmetically.

I have snow leopard 10.6.6 installed on my Dell mini 9 --the most easiest installation of snow leopard on PC laptop. then I clone the hard drive, replace the dsdt file from Sebinouse latest package in the first post. insert the cloned Hard drive into my x61t. I got the correct values "base frequency = 200Mhz FSB =800Mhz". I never got those values with other installation methods posted on internet, included the way in this thread.

So far I have no idea of which kext file made my x61t to use that correct frequency values. I can check the kext one by one from /Extra/Extensions folder to find it out.

Sebinouse, this is really great work and it is so darn close, but ...................

I have tried on a X61T and a X61S and get the same problem. Using the 12/15/2011 package, I get a kernel panic on ACPIBatteryManager. If I remove the ACPIBatteryManager kext, it will boot, but there is no monitor for the battery. Since it's a laptop, I'd like to know when I'm going to lose my work.


I suspect a problem in the DSDT.aml, but I really have no idea how to troubleshoot this file.

I've been so busy lately I had to put this aside, but I would really like to knock this out. What info can I provide that might help the cause ?

I just thought I'd add my experience with the X61 and OS X as well. This will be probably the fifth time I've installed it, and while I've met with much greater success, I don't have a stable system at all. It was fine all day yesterday, with numerous reboots, and not one kp. Today, it won't boot at all. I've removed the drive and replaced the AppleHDA.kext and reset permissions, so I'll be re-installing the drive momentarily. One thing I've noticed with this, is when I fix the permissions with the Disk Utility, there are a lot of repairs necessary, every time. Other hacks I've done, have had surprisingly few. I don't know if that's indicative of anything, but it's one of the obvious differences with this X61.

The SD card reader has only worked once, and then the system froze.
Ethernet works most of the time, but not always.
The USB ports either work on boot, or don't work at all.
At times I have no mouse or trackpoint.
I decided not to replace the wireless miniPCI card, and opted for the D-Link USB mentioned previously, which works well by the way.
Graphics are just ok at 1024x768. Screen refresh is poor to the extent that streaming video is not really acceptable at all.

I'm still working with it, but it's certainly not something I would come close to depending on at this point. However, I sincerely appreciate all of the work and information everyone, and especially Sebinouse has provided here. It's been fun as a result, even though I've not achieved a stable system as of yet (I was spoiled by my experience with the Dell mini10v I'm afraid, and had great luck with my Asus 1201n as well). Thanks everyone!

I'm back in business by replacing the AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E with that provided in the package. I must have forgotten to do that after an update somehow and that is what was causing the kp I believe. Since yesterday, it has been solid. I've had no problems with either sound or the USB ports. I haven't tried ethernet since moving to the D-Link wireless USB, so I don't know whether that is still a problem or not.
If I choose sleep from the Apple menu, it's doing that nicely AND, waking up as well! That's important to me because my intention is to use this machine primarily when traveling, waiting at airports, etc. I've not had success with simply closing the lid as of yet. It does go to sleep, but never wakes up unfortunately. I can live with that however.

Problems:

Has anyone re-mapped the keyboard? I would like to be able to use the dipthong or whatever the uppercase key is to the left of the number 1 key. I use it in scripts to ensure I get to home of user or root, and that's giving me a "±" key right now.

I'm still not having any luck with the SD cardreader. It will work if I have an SD card in the slot at boot, but otherwise, not. Suggestions?

When the screen dims, powersave, it only does so on the left half of the screen for some reason and not the entire screen.

A GUID exception when trying to use Airplay via iTunes on occasion, which requires me to remove a file and then reboot, but I attribute that to the D-Link dongle. I'm not sure about that, but it's suspect for now, although it works beautifully otherwise.
