You're right ... Netkas changed his server ... here is the new link : http://mirror.netkas.org/10.6.2/AtherosFix.kext.zip

Go to to "About his mac" by clicking on the apple on the left top corner. Click on "More info". What exactly do you have under "Hardware" "PCI Card" and under "Network" "Airport" ?

- Install "Chameleon RC4-AsereBLN-1.1.9" ON THIS "USB KEY" (be careful this could damage your own hardware)

Will this damage the mac that you use to do this step on? Is that what you mean by hardware?

I am going to try this but cannot hurt the iMac I will be using. :D

Also, when you say to install SL on the HDD Snow, where do you do that from? Do you put it in the laptop and boot from usb key?

And one last thing, how do you install chameleon? I have not gotten snow Leopard yet but will be here tomorrow.

Thanks so much!!!

This installer modifies some partition table stuff on the disk you have selected ... This precaution was written in the guide I used, I prefer relay it !

To avoid any problem, just use it carefully and select the right disk (the "USB Key" and later on the "HDD SNow" but NEVER your working "MacOSX" disk !)

(According myHack there is a way to restore an original apple disk after this mistake ...but this original apple disk will be unbootable in the original apple hardware until you run this patch !)
andycool123 wrote:Also, when you say to install SL on the HDD Snow, where do you do that from? Do you put it in the laptop and boot from usb key?
Once you boot on the "USB Key", the retail Snow Leopard Installer will be launched and you just have to select "HDD Snow" as destination and that's all !
andycool123 wrote:And one last thing, how do you install chameleon? I have not gotten snow Leopard yet but will be here tomorrow.
On "MacOSX" (for you your iMac), just launch "AsereBLN 1.1.9 Bootloader (Based on Chameleon 2 RC4)" from this package and select the USB key /HDD Snow !

... OK ... for me everything it is just fine ... I don't see why there is a problem ...

Can you give me the result of this command in terminal :

Code: Select all

lspci -nn
if it doesn't work, install OSX86Tools and clic on "View PCI devices"
(you should then have a precise list of your hardware)

I also need more info about your Atheros card.

Can you try this in terminal and then try your SD card reader : (replace YourMacHardDrive by the real name of your mac hard drive aka HDDSnow ..)

Code: Select all

sudo kextload /Volumes/YourMacHardDrive/Extra/Extensions/VoodooSDHC.kext/

should the AtherosFix.kext and VoodooSDHC.kext be both in the E/E folder and S/L/E folder?

master Sebinouse;

I reinstall w/o these two kext. how should i reinstall them. should i install as follow each kext which i got from another forum.

Drag Kext Utility and Kext Helper b7 to your Applications folder.
1. copy the xxx.kext to System – Library – Extensions
3. Open Kext Helper b7.
4. Drag xxx.kext from System – Library – Extensions into Kext Helper b7.
5. Type your password and click EASY INSTALL.
6. Close Kext Helper b7.
7. Open Snow Leopard drive.
8. Drag /Extra/Extensions folder onto Kext Utility application. (This will repair permissions on the folder, backup your cache file, and replace cache file with an updated one.)
9. Drag /System/Library/Extensions folder onto Kext Utility application.
10. Open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
11. Highlight Snow Leopard in the left column.
12. Click Repair Permissions. You should now have Ethernet access.

The above doesn't show i putting the xxx.kext in the E/E folder.

Is this right?

The main aim of this guide is to have the most simple hackintosh possible (to be compatible with updates). That's why you don't have to modify /S/L/E at all, everything is handled by /E/E ...

To add a new kext, just drag and drop in /E/E (enter your password) and then run pfix or kextutility (just run it, don't drag and drop folder on it). Now you can reboot and see the changes.

The 2 kexts you need are already in the package you used to install 10.6 (Atheros part has been copied in X60TLegacy) ... that's why it should work ... and that's why I need more infos.

You can also try to boot in verbose mode : when you see the chameleon during boot, press any key to interrupt and then type

Code: Select all

-v
You will see what is loading during boot and you should see some VoodooSDHC and some Atheros stuff ...

for my own education as i'm learning on adding kext. what the difference between your suggestion of "just drag and drop in /E/E (enter your password), then run pfix, reboot" vs "using kext helper b7 / and kext utility".

KextHelper will add the kext in /S/L/E ... not in /E/E.
For my part I prefer the Drag&Drop in /E/E + kextutility method !

I have edited the previous message, and I confirm it is "KextUtility" not diskutility ... my mistake !

understand.

when I run the p-fix, it should be on the entire disk if i remember correctly when i did it earlier. I don't think you can chose just the E/E folder right?

Yes, you run pfix / select the partition / enter your password
There is also a dirty way to use pfix with terminal to run it only on /E/E : go to the directory of pfix and type "pfix3 -s -s -t"
for exemple :
cd /Volumes/Mac/MacPNT/
pfix3 -s -s -t
But I really prefer to use KextUtility (several issues with pfix and VoodooHDA)

so you suggest drag and drop the two kext files in E/E and run KextUtility (your preferred tool over pfix). which kextUtility version?

just drag and drop the voodooSDHC kext in E/E and running kext utility 2.3.1 in your package. rebooting now.

Boot in verbose mode to see what is going wrong (see my post above). You can also boot on your "MacOSX" and undo what you have done and repair permissions on your "HDDSnow" .

when i drag and drop the kext files, i get the message teh xxx.text can't be moved because "extensions" can't be modified. i then authenticate and it seems to have copy over to the E/E folder. then i run the pfix for the partition. is that right?

Drag Snow DVD on source and drag USBKey on Destination ...

i started from scratch again. re-install window w/o the 100mb reserve, install mac. use diskpart to boot into windows and use easybcd to create dual booting. SD card reader is fine, but no wireless. the wireless kext is LegacyX60T.kext, right? since it didn't work, I trash LegacyX60T.kext and copy in AtherosFix.kext and apply pfix and reboot. But still have no wireless. under network, it's showing bluetooth, ethernet and firewire. Should I re-run pfix and reboot? Any other suggestion?

I apologize if this is the wrong forum, but since i have both mac and win 7. i post it for any similiar experience. as i'm installing these two os, i notice that i have no problem in the installation process if i leave out the battery. so i power with the ac adapter only. several time, i got lockup with the 4cell on a docking station and charging. my 4cell seems to be dying, getting less than an hour per full charge (more like 30-40 minutes). I installed power management and it's telling me the battery is in good condition but just receive a message saying the battery can only charge up to 52% of capacity.

One other thing is my fan is also dying which is pretty nasty to replace yourself. I'm sure that doesn't help in lowering the heat.

Anyone have similiar experience?
