Anyone tried OSX on ThinkPad R51 ?

#1 Post by frankiepankie » Sun Nov 28, 2010 10:40 am

Has anyone ever tried running OSX on an ThinkPard R51 ?

I have a FrankenPad (see signature) with R51 mainboard, and would like to give OSX a try on it.

I did a search on the "OS-X on a ThinkPad" subforum but didn't get any result of someone trying it.

I would like to know what distribution to use, certain tips / tricks etc

Not on R51 but I had osx86 running on T42, which may have similar enough components.

I installed 10.4.8 (may have been JaS) and then upgraded up to 10.4.11. I had ethernet, wifi (with atheros card), usb, trackpoint, type pad working. I had it running in the sxga+ mode so may be QE/CI was working as well. Speedstep worked but not sleep. The installation steps are pretty well documented in this forum or at insanelymac.

It was stable and ran most software that I was using at the time. I didn't try to install 10.5 since I got a Thinkpad X300 and didn't have much use for the T42 after that.

For additional info on successful configurations, you can look at the hardware compatibility list on http://wiki.osx86project.org for OsX86 setup and packages.
