T60 With 10.6.8 Problems

#1 Post by phatskat » Tue Jul 12, 2011 6:55 pm

Hi all, I'm a new comer to the forum but I've had my T60 1952 for about a week and I've been here since day 1 (actually, before that, reading up). I burned the MacPNT CD from this thread and followed the instructions on updating to 10.6.x (I downloaded the combo update from Apple's site). All went well, I even got my Netgear WG111v3 using a modified kext from who knows where.

Everything worked, but USB wifi was a bummer. I peeled open a broken R60 on a whim and found an Atheros AR5BXB6 inside and popped it in for the Intel card. Here is where the trouble comes in - on a second hard disk, a clean 10.6 install found the card working perfectly. I did incremental updates and it broke at 10.6.2 (although I have suspicions that a different kext was at fault), and needless to say it doesn't w - CD ROM doesn't work, nor does USB or battery monitor. Console shows launchd/configd crashing hard trying to run some AirPort related process.

Has anyone gotten this working on 10.6.8? If I remove the kexts or the card for the Atheros then the system is back to normal - obviously sans-wifi.

So, time for some updates!

So, I got 10.6.8 working (almost) perfectly now - my main issue, the Atheros wifi card mentioned above, is finally working thanks to advice in this thread on tonymacx86.

Steps I took to solve this:
- Download the file from mediafire with AtherosFix.kext from the thread above
- Unzip, you get two kexts and a bundle
- Place the bundle in /S/L/SystemConfiguration
- Place the kexts in /S/L/E
- Run pfix, reboot

Also, Preboot.dmg that comes with the MacPNT_Boot CD does not seem to work with 10.6.8, I get a kernel version mis-match in pmCPU.c

Questions for the community:
- Can these kexts be placed in /E/E even though one is the same name as the one in /S/L/E - how does the one in /E/E take precedent?
- Is there a way to put the bundle elsewhere in the spirit of keeping 100% vanilla?

Chameleon bootloader is supposed to "replace" the kext from /S/L/E from those from /E/E if they have the same name ... but sometimes something goes wrong and it doesn't work ... Just try, repair permissions ...

Try to add this to your smbios.plist to keep it vanilla :

Code: Select all

<key>SMboardproduct</key>
  <string>Mac-F4208CC8</string>
Lenovo X60t (6363-AQ8)
  • Intel CoreDuo 1,67 GHz (L2400)
  • 3 Go / 320 Go / GMA950 / FW 400 / SD Card
  • Bluetooth / Wifi AR5BXB6 / Tablet
WinXP / MacOSX 10.6.8 (DSDT patch and vanilla SLE)
