Lion/Snow Leopard on an x201? Issues and concerns

#1 Post by VoiceOver » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:02 pm

Hello everyone :)

I recently joined this forum, in hopes of shedding light on this matter - since nowhere else was I able to receive any answers regarding my troubles. I have moderate experience hackintoshing or running Mac OS on a thinkpad as well as a lot of other system types. So I am certainly not new to the seen, however recognize that others may have more knowledge than I do to the different experiences they went through. So let's build the "tree" of knowledge together :)

I have an x201 laptop, with a core i3 370m, intel GPU, 160 GB HDD, trackpoint (no pad), 20585 Smart Audio HD... All the goodies most x201 laptops have. The model number of it is 3249CTO, but don't be fooled: I did take the liberty of adding an extra bluetooth module into the screen as the 3249CTO lacked this. :)

I have had much success running 10.6.4 on this x201. Even the Intel HD graphics was recognized natively since Macbooks/older iMacs now use this, though as a blind person who uses Voiceover to read the mac's screen I could care less about graphics :) Whether there was a picture/text on the screen is debatable, I have no idea! Lol!

Starting with 10.6.5, something strange changed. My built-in keyboard and mouse no longer worked. This surprised me as I didn't see how or why it would be so. I was using ApplePS2Keyboard and the AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext files, but even switching to VoodooPS2 couldn't make it work again. I only had the very minimal kexts - NulCPUPower, fakeSMC, VoodooHDA for audio... I'm sure it couldn't be a conflict.

Now I am trying to get lion working. It boots fine, but again, no keyboard. Plugging an external one doesn't work either which is what puzzles me a lot! I have tried several ps2 keyboard controler kexts, but most of them came with trackpad support, which of course my thinkpad lacks.

Has anyone ever tried getting this to work on an x201? Are there any other solutions? I wonder how people can get their t60p /x61s working fine but I can't my poor x201. The thing is, they've always used a ps/2 keyboard and mouse... Always... Maybe Lenovo modified something?

Any help is appreciated! :)

With all the best,
Tomi

There were video driver issues which was never solved. Instead of doing hackintosh, you are better off doing a virtual machine emulation of Mac Os X through Parellels, VMWare or VirtualBox. VB is an opensource VM effort. Just need enough ram and CPU power.

Hello,

I have a x201 (from the signature) and i'm trying to install lion on it (iatkos L1).
The installation is working only with the flags: busratio=18 npci=0x2000 but at first reboot it's haging on acpi_smc_platformplugin timed out

How did you manage to install lion on it? (at least until the step with no keyboard)?

What chipset has the mainboard on your x201? Mine is Mobile Intel GM57 Express...

I managed to install lion (iatkos L) on a thinkpad T500 and a HP desktop but on my x201 fails everytime..
ThinkPad X201 (3680)
CPU I5-520M
RAM 2GB
HDD 240GB
Mobile Intel® GM57 Express
Intel HD Graphic
Intel WiMAX 6250 AGN
Qualcomm Gobi 2000 Wireless WAN
Intel PRO/1000 LAN
Conexant Audio
