Are the recovery CD's going to recover the whole IBM_System partition in case of coruption or other failure or they just recover files and settings in windows?

dim, are you talking about Lenovo Laptop or IBM thinkpad?

If you are talking about a thinkpad, it will recover the machine the way it was when it left the factory, i.e. complete new install of windows, drivers, hidden partition, etc.

The laptop is Lenovo 3000 C100.

The reason I ask is that I damaged the IBM_System partition and now I'm thinking of making a set of recovery CD's from another Lenovo 3000 C100 machine hoping that it will restore everything to the original state(including the files in the system partition)
Am I right?

If the machine is the exact (same machine type and model) it should work. There are usually 2 parts to the restore process, and 2 sets of discs. One is a restore disc that rebuilds the hidden lenovo-care OS, which once that is loaded, uses the other discs to build the rest of the system.

One of these I am planning on trying it out to see how well it works. I have a full system restore from a clean windows install made, and its all backed up to my home server.

Just wanted to say that I tried out the R&R for the first time tonight to make sure it would work. Installed IE7 on the laptop, and the booted into the recovery section, initiated the network restore process, and about 45 minutes later was all back to normal from where I left off before the IE7 install.

I would have probably made some recovery DVDr's, but I only have a cdrw drive in my C100.
