3000 Recovery Partition

#1 Post by bigbird68 » Wed Nov 29, 2006 7:00 pm

Hi,
I accidentally deleted the recovery partition on a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop. I did not create any recovery disk from it, and Lenovo is asking for $50 to ship out a recovery CD. So beside the drivers, what other applications do I need? and is it possible to download an image of the recovery partition? Lenovo TAC support has said no to that..
thanks

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forum :)

Did you explain to them that the partition got blown away before you had a chance to make the RnR set? They *should* be accomodating and let you off with a recovery CD set free of charge (depends on who you get).

Worse comes to worst, you can post a WTB in the Marketplace and somebody will probably offer the RnR set for your 3000 for the cost of shipping only. :)

You can download most, not all, of the software that was on your system previously from Lenovo's website if you go to the support page for you model.

thanks, I did that, but the guy is not willing to relent.. I told him I discovered that I can make a recovery CD only after I've blown away the partition, but that didnt move him.
I'm also thinking of getting Vista once it is out (its free upgrade from Lenovo), so was wondering if the recovery partition is useful once Vista is available. If not, than I will just need to know the apps and drivers needed.
I'm able to download the drivers from Lenovo site, any idea what apps will be needed/useful as well? I dont want to slow down the laptop with lots of junk apps / trial software.
thanks for the help.

You can get System Update 2 and it will automatically get all the essential stuff and updates it can for you. Also, you can check through what you want to get manually by going to the Support and Downloads page and enter the model info.

HTH :)

PS: Sad to hear that the guy won't budge....another might but you could also end up just wasting your time. :|
