does anyone know what's the 3000 N100's case made of?
does anyone know what's the 3000 N100's case made of?
Hi folks,
I was gazing earlier on at a nice 3000 N100 down at a local shop.
And I thought "gee, their not thinkpads but they sure look sturdy"
Does anyone know exactly what their made of? magnesium? aluminium? (guess no titanium hey)
Cheers!

funny thing you should post this today
I've just been to the shop earlier on and indeed it looked like cheap plastic. It flexed quite a lot when i pressed it really.
The hardware specs of the machine where quite alright for the price though. I might eventually get one although i would really *love* a thinkpad T...

I actually think the N100 (15.4") is quite sturdy.kamaleon wrote:...I've just been to the shop earlier on and indeed it looked like cheap plastic. It flexed quite a lot when i pressed it really....
Other than the lower end of the screen cover (between the hinges) and the accessible doors at the bottom, I found the case to be really firm. Trying to hold the laptop horizontally with one hand, there is no creaking at all, and the case doesn't bend either. Disregarding the flex parts I mentioned above, IMO the N100 has a better built case than many other consumer laptops.
ended up getting one, received it thursday, got a great deal on ebay, with an extra 9 cell battery and 2GB ram
then i got a great deal for a 60GB 7K100 (boy this thing's really silent compared to my ex 7K60!!), got it this morning, i'm installing xp pro now (the default factory install was crap), the machine surely does look a lot sturdier than a lot of cheap disposable laptops, but it still looks a lot scratcheable, unlike a real thinkpad.
Anyway, i'm really excited about it, it certainly is fast
