Loud Beep

#1 Post by Kyocera » Thu Sep 27, 2007 9:19 am

I have a V200 that gives off a 500 decibel eardrum shattering beep  when removing the ac adapter and I can't figure out how to disable this. Any help appreciated.

Possible solutions:

1. Turn the volume to mute before unplugging the AC Adapter (temporary solution).

2. I am aware of the fact that the BIOS of 3000 family notebooks is not identically integrated as compared to their business oriented counterparts, i.e. thinkpads. But give following a shot:

Press F1 on boot to enter the BIOS Utility screen > go to "Config" > Alarm > Power Control beep > set it to "Disable".

3. Go to (Thinkvantage) Power Manager > Global Power settings > uncheck "beep when power state changes".

Works on thinkpads, ofcourse would have worked on lenovo 3000 family notebooks, had lenovo released something like Power Manager/Battery maximiser for them.

4. The following disables internal speakers but the beep noise you described comes from the external source (if I am not wrong) so you can try the following just to check whether it helps you in some way or not:

Device Manager > Click "View" > Show Hidden Devices > "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" will be displayed in the list > Expant it > Right click on the "Beep" and select "Properties" > Driver > Type > Disable. (This will permanently disable it until you modify the settings again).

Thanks, I have been scouring and searching the HMM, i'be been putting it in hibernate prior to disconnecting the ac adapter.

No way to turn it off via the bios.

Disabling the PNP didn't work.

There is nothing similar to Thinkvantage on this machine, at least not that i can find. Lenovocare is about it.

Using the mute button seems to be the only way for now.

Among 3000 family notebooks, lenovo released a power management tool for only new 3000 Y series (made available to asian region merely). It's called EnergyCut, Lenovo energy-saving application. A fellow of mine said it gets installed on other 3000 notebooks easily. However he was unable to tell me the capability of the tool, if you prefer you can download it to check what it can do. I suggest to create a restore point in Windows in advance prior to installing it:

Drivers and software - 3000 Y500.

With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."

rye, I just got through doing a system restore, the program installed ok, but none of it's associated parts would open, and it also effected control panel and system properties would not open, don't recommend it quite yet at least for this model.

Along with the "Think" line, lenovo is also extensively focusing on 3000 products as well, hopefully in the future you'll see better and an efficient utility (other than Lenovo Power Management) similar to Thinkvantage Power Manager for them.

As far as the case scenario of loud beeping is concerned, I suggest using the (temporary) solution of mute for now. You can also try searching for any 3rd party Power Manager just to see if they provide any no beep option once changes are made to the power state.

Which lenovo 3000 machine do you own?

Do any of the possible solutions in my above post helps you?

Would this help?

The same problem has just been raised on Lenovo Forums

I also just found a place where to get a repair manual for the V200

There are only solutions for thinkpads and beep device hidden in the device manager. This is different "BEEP" and this solution is not working for it.

On the lenovo forums there is my post:) please help me, if u have some ideas.

Mute will always work, sorry but there aren't many options available/designed for lenovo 3000 since it's just a consumer line of lenovo notebooks.

I know :( but i also think that there must be a way to turn off the system speaker in Windows ( some registry settings or device) Did you hear about something connected with it?
