n100 Randomly Powers off.

I've run into this a good bit lately. It seems like every Lenovo 3000 laptop that comes into the store randomly powers off. I pull the battery, hit the power button, reconnect the battery, and it'll run fine.

I can NEVER reproduce the problem, and I can't find anything online. It's hard to fix something that you can't recreate. I replaced a motherboard on the last one, and they sent it right back to me complaining of the same problem. I'm starting to think that these things are overly sensitive to surges.

Has anyone else had this happen? If so, do you know what was replaced to remedy the problem?

Aha!

The driver s24trans.sys is causing a BSOD or Stop error. Either way, the system only shuts down instead of rebooting. I'd never seen that before.

PC Doctor will cause it every time.

s24trans.sys - Intel WLAN Packet Driver v 10,1,0,2

There was an issue a while back with PC Dr. and thinkpads, maybe it has extended itself to the Lenovo line.

Well... I uninstalled and reinstalled the Proset wireless software. Now it passes PC Doctor. I guess I won't know if that was the underlying issue for a while yet, but I suspect it was.
