URGENT! How Access BIOS Setup Advanced Settings? Lenovo 3000

#1 Post by Northbeachnik » Tue Nov 27, 2007 10:59 pm

I've been working on a fix for a problem with the help from one of the volunteers on CastleCops.com. The Lenovo 3000 N100 belongs to a client of mine; they just loaned it out.

Now I need to access the BIOS, go to ADVANCED Settings, go to Plug & Play O/S Option and set it to "YES".

Easy, right? Well, no. This is not like any of the AST, Dell, Compaq or HP machines I've dealt with. Pressing F2; Delete; or Control. Alt, Esc all at the same time (or Control, Alt, Delete or Control, Alt, Ins all at the same time) doesn't work. If I press F2 all I get is the screen that gives me info about the Phoenix BIOS in this machine.

If I go to LenovoCare (now there's a misnomer  :!: ), I get to the Rescue & Recovery (another misnomer :?: ). BUT, I can't get in. The administrator, I guess the IT guy at the client, has the password.

I'm trying to fix this laptop before it comes back even though I'm not responsible for it being in this shape. I've been told that there are several things wrong with this machine. I'm only trying to repair the major thing wrong ( the network adaptor is on and open and cannot be disabled). I'm just trying to be a nice guy.

So, is the only way to gain access to the BIOS Advanced settings through the Rescue & Recovery...or is there another way?

Any ideas  would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Nik

We don't do password cracking here. Get it from the IT guy at the client.

Thanks for a quick response, Nonny :!:

I didn't think you'd tell me how to crack a password. I was just hoping that there was another workaround to get at the BIOS settings. :banghead:

Why does Lenovo give the option of locking up the access? :BAAAD!: So that IT doesn't have to deal with employees who are do-it-your-selfers  :?:

Thanks for volunteering here :thumbs-UP:

Security purposes or you can kindly ask the the administrator who has set the password voluntarily.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
