Re-enable omnipass/authentec software

Following reinstallation of Windows XP (Outlook 2007 had managed to irreversibly corrupt the registry AND the system restore points  ) I found that Omnipass would not let me in to enrol my fingerprint unless it could read my fingerprint (which it couldn't) ! I restored the backup file which stores the fingerprint profile, but it didn't help. Eventually, I decided that the best thing was to remove the software and reinstall it. There was no function to do this within the Lenovo Care options, but from one of the forum responses on this site, I found, downloaded and successfully installed a new version of Omnipass. But, it doesn't recognise that I have fingerprint hardware  . Presumably, I have to find and download a version of the Authentec software :?: Any ideas where from? Also, after the Omnipass installation it said "Please make sure that the vendor-provided TPM software stack is installed on the system" . How do I know and, if it isn't, how do I do this :?

AuthenTec is the name of Biometric fingerprint sensor chip. So I believe you require the following package:

Fingerprint reader driver for Windows XP - 3000 N100.

Many thanks :) - I'll send you email address by PM. Incidentally, I do have all the ibm stuff still on my PC but it's somehow hidden :? . If I can access it somehow, I can presumably restore it from there without needing to download :?:

ryengineer - thanks for the advice :) - I've downloaded and installed the device driver and it's now listed in my computer/devices and is enabled :D . Unfortunately, omnipass still can't see it :( . If I try to enrol a new device I get the message "There are no devices that can be enrolled for the current user or a device that is needed for the user is not connected to this system." I'm off to search the internet for THIS message! In the meantime, I still believe I need to install the "TPM software stack". Any idea how I go about that :?:

The reason is TPM can only be associated with one user in an operating system, you need to clear up the Security Chip in the BIOS.

You can find information to do that in the following post by milkster:

Security Chip Passphrase.

The instructions are for thinkpads but I believe the procedure will be somewhat similar for your lenovo 3000 machine.

Sadly, nothing anyone has suggested works at all. My laptop still does not recognise the fingerprint reader and the problem I described still exists 100%.

I have obtained a Knoppix disc which enables me to see the hidden areas of my disk so, if anyone can tell me what program on there I need to run to reinstate Omnipass plus fingerprint reader, that would be fantastic

Ian, if the machine is still under warranty then you should contact lenovo support since this can be a hardware issue too.

As far as the location of default factory drivers is concerned, look under C:\SWTOOLS, "FPR" is the name that is usually given to fingerprint drivers.

Also run ThinkVantage System Update, sometimes updating drivers for another device can also make the problematic device work again.

Out of warranty, unfortunately :( . I can't locate "ThinkVantage System Update" - I have a ThinkVantage folder but it's empty :? . There's a ThinkVantage Access Connections icon in the system tray - I clicked on it and found "System Update" under "Help", but when I ran it I got the message "No packages applicable to your system were found".
The actual driver for the fingerprint device appears to be working fine :) - the problem seems to be with OmniPass - which doesn't detect the driver :x . Given that I had to restore OmniPass from a non-Lenovo website (the latter does not seem to have the facility to download Omnipass) could it be that I have a version of OmniPass that can't recognize the Authentec drivers :?: The version number it displays is 5.00.13.

Checked this out - doesn't seem to work for me. Pressing ESC just displays the MSDOS activity while Windows boots (is that what it's supposed to do?) - I then shut down as soon as Windows started booting and pressed F1, selected Security, but got nothing at all about an embedded security chip. It showed info about (I think) 3 passwords (system, HDD etc.) but all were indicated as "clear".

Forgot to mention - in respect of

- I ran ATMinInst.msi in the FPR folder - it appeared to instal the fingerprint driver OK - but Omnipass still can't find any devices to enrol.........

Ian, look for a folder named "LPRA" under C:\SWTOOLS or C:\Drivers, it contains Omnipass setup, reinstall it again.

If you can't find it then search it from Windows search feature.

If things don't work then try the following solution stated by Pascal:

Omnipass for Vista on 3000 N100.

Go to LG website and download the Omnipass software by choosing -Notebook then -M1. You might want to change the website's language to English 1st though.

Thanks - got there eventually :D ! Just in case it helps someone else - the Omnipass program setup was in the folder :\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\FPRA. I also noticed in the DRIVERS folder a folder called LPM - no indication of what it is, but I thought it might have something to do with either TPM or password manager - so I ran the setup program in that folder before running Omnipass setup. Whether it helped or not, I've no idea :!:
